Hi, I am 32 years old and my biggest problem is my dizziness caused by anxiety. I really hope that here I can find some support or even better some good tips to get rid of this dizziness.

Welcome.

I’m no expert on the dizziness, but I see that if we take the anxiety away, then it won’t be a problem. Running has a great track record when it comes to easing anxiety, so you’re in the right place.

Here’s the guide to the plan, which contains the answers to most of your questions and is full of tips to make this easier. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Come and talk to us lots... we got you now, we will support you the whole way through this and beyond.

Whatever you do, don’t overthink any run... nothing depends on it... if you make the finish, great, if you don’t then just repeat the run. What really matters is crossing the start lines... keep doing that and you can only succeed.

Run nice and slowly... so that you can speak in full sentences without gasping... that’s the best pace to do this at, both in terms of making it easier and getting the most body/fitness development out of it.

You can do this... relax as much as you can and just enjoy your journey.

Try doing relaxation exercises outside of running. The dizziness is from shallow fast breathing. You need to retrain to breath better. Long deep breaths in through the nose, hold a couple of seconds then slow out through the mouth. Try to do count of 7 in and 9 out but don’t worry it that’s too much. Repeat 10 times.

Relaxation can be done through mindfulness eg the headspace app or sitting in a chair, closing your eyes and working up from your toes squeeze each muscle group for a count of 10 and slowly let it out. Include hunching up your shoulders and screwing up your face.

There are probably routines on you tube to help.

I find when I am anxious, mostly subconsciously, I go dizzy even when talking. I then try for a few days focusing on the above and I’m good again for a while.

You might even find your body has forgotten how to breath well and shallow breaths all the time. Retraining your breathing will help.

Good luck and remember exercise reducing anxiety so you are definitely helping yourself.
