Struggling to motivate myself!!

Hi! This is my first time posting here!! I’m in need of some inspiration and support so I’m turning to you all.

Last week I ran week 5 run 3 and I was so chuffed!! It felt amazing!! But for some reason I’ve lost my run mojo - I can’t work out of its stress, the current lockdown situation, anxiety or am I just being lazy! Maybe it’s all of it!!

I started C25k as a means to become more active, have less anxiety and I really want to feel that feeling again of running in the sun without worrying what anyone thinks. I used to run pre mini person coming into my life, I miss it! I’m hoping this is a glitch and I can get my running shoes and feel that feeling I felt on my last run. Fingers crossed!!

In my view, the idea that it is a lack of motivation, that the mojo has packed up and left or that the magic has gone are not helpful at this point. Yes stress, anxiety and lockdown will play on your mind, but it doesn't actually prevent you from running.

I would say that developing a running habit is more about discipline and recognising that negative thoughts are under your control. Try not to overthink it; set a time, put on your kit and just do the run.

(oh, and enjoy :) )

Hi Mudhii 😊 Firstly, well done on completing Week 5! That's brilliant and you must feel a real sense of achievement.

Losing your mojo could be down to any or all of those factors, but it will pass. The main thing is to get out there again and start week 6, which steps back again a bit after the high of week 5.

If you're a morning runner (good right now as it tends to be quieter and the sun coming up is inspirational 😊) get your kit out ready the night before and just put it on and get out there before you have a chance to change your mind!

If you have to grab the time when you can (I think you mentioned a small person) then lay your kit out anyway or put it on so your ready to go at the drop of a hat!

Looking forward to reading your next post... 😊

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Write down all the reasons why you want to do this plan and when they all become no longer relevant, you can go back to slobbing out on the couch. Until then, just look at your list to remind you each time you find motivation flagging.

Learning to run for me was the greatest gift that I have ever given myself. It taught me about my body and to my surprise, about my mind.

I learned about my strengths and exploited them.

I learned about my weaknesses and challenged them.

The consequence was that I became fitter and happier than I had ever been in my life.

The rewards of this effort are profound and totally life changing.

At this particular time running will boost your immune system and improve your heart and lung function, so is a positive contribution to beating Covid 19.

We can supply advice, support, sympathy and virtual cheer leaders (you should see me wave my pompom!) but motivation has to come from you.

You can do this if you want to.

Enjoy your journey.
