W6R2 - How fast should you Walk?

Jacqui_tries_again50 profile image

Done, another run, not sure I can chat while running, is that the aim to run at chatting/singing speed? Also, I am not sure I walk fast enough...is it supposed to be an almost run? It feels good to do this, noone out as the time change confused them all I guess, but I have looked ahead with a little dread. Next one 25mins solid?????

The recommendation is to run at a pace at which you can speak clear, ungasping sentences and brisk walk, fast enough to get your heart rate raised, but not so fast that you cannot speak clearly, as stated in the guide to the plan.

Do not dread any workout.......that will do nothing to help you. This post about mental approach may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Relax and enjoy it.......don't overthink it.

Don’t worry about it Jta! Walking speed is brisk - whatever is your brisk. Mine was faster than my running speed when I did my C25K (tbh it probably still is!). As for running for 25 minutes, of course you can do it- all your previous runs have been preparing you for it. If it helps, break it down into 5 minute chunks. And imagine your smile when you’ve done it! Happy running!

You've got this! I personally walked quickly but there's no real right way. You'll be running solid from here on in so keep steady and you will get there! Nothing to fear. Mind over matter.

Yes you should be able to talk while running. I used that as my guide to how I was doing; if I was struggling to say a sentence, I went slower. Not all runs are the same and even parts of the same run can be different.

I found walking to be similar; some days I was walking fast and some days were slow. Walking was always at a pace where I could easily talk. The aim is to warm up.

Honestly, don't worry about future runs. The program builds you up and a lot of this is about believing you can do it . You really can!
