I hadn't run since Tuesday, the day before this was done. I was feeling dismal and a bit paranoid with all the scary news at the moment. But then I read a great post by Roxdog first thing this morning which made me kick my own backside and get out there.
I was going to go silent, but decided to try some gentle classical music for a change which seems to fit with the beauty of nature.
So I did it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is most certainly true that running is good for your mental health. Thanks for the much needed encouragement Roxdog ๐๐
Also, Speedy60 commented on the same post saying "we should keep this forum as a beacon of kindness and normality in uncertain times"...which I think are wise words indeed!
Take care everybody, and keep running ๐

It always helps doesnt it getting out in the fresh air!
We decided today to sod it and come out for sunday lunch anyway and did as well and really enjoyed it!
We decided to limit watching the news and going on social media as it upsets me and focus on things we can do something about live our own behaviour and simple common sense!
Good run for you today Wenderwoo, just heard very scary news, they say within the next 20 days all people 70 or over will have to stay at home for at least 4 months, now that is scary news, how could we keep running.
I just can't see how keeping healthy active people at home would work, I understand not going to mass gatherings is fine, I certainly wouldn't do that, but to tell everyone to stay at home and not get out in the fresh air is not on.
I know it would be difficult, especially for up to 4 months. However I think thatโs the point - to try to keep the healthy (but more vulnerable) people healthy ๐ค
I was just speaking to my neighbour, that's the one with the dog which I take out walks and is on the photo on my profile page, he told me if the worst comes to the worst he will do the shopping for me, that's nice of him, however, like you Nilsam I will try and sneak out of my house and go for a short walk, run or cycle ride in the park very near to where I live, it's only a 3 minute walk, I don't have to cross any road to get to it, the only problem might be if someone phoned the police,, however, unless it was a 999 call I would be home long before they came, just imagine someone being arrested for either a walk or run in the park ๐, come to think of it, it would be better to go a run or a short ๐ฒ bike ride. ๐
Oh my what happened to that eye? Looks painful. Is that a stitch? Hope it heals quickly. Good to see you got your mojo back ๐. After a run ๐โโ๏ธ itโs amazing how the endorphins kick in . ๐๐๐. You overcame the biggest challenge which was getting out the door!
I had a dodgy mole removed from my eyelid, and also a couple of other lesions, one from each lower leg. Donโt worry, I havenโt been in a punch up, lol ๐. Iโm more worried about having to go to the Docโs to get the stitches removed ๐ท
Fingers crossed then for good biopsies. I too have a medical appointment...I wonder if they have FaceTime or the like?? You canโt duck out of going sadly! There will be plenty soap and water there eh? Enjoy your rest ๐ค
So glad you got out there Wenderwoo! It was perhaps sensible not to run for a couple of days after your op, but sitting around can play with our heads! You look very refreshed and happy!
Nice lot of posts and responses today and this type of social media is a force for good!
I was starting to go crazy after sitting at home both Friday and yesterday and came out today with my sister in law for a walk into town and then round some shops and for Sunday lunch and then back home and I feel better for having made the effort!
Tomorrow we will pretend the couch isn't there first thing, do our exercise early and then come back and watch TV without guilt!
Roxdog, I think โSitting around can play with our headsโ is one of the wisest things Iโve heard for a long time. Itโs really struck a chord with me. Thanks for your thoughtful words. Take care of yourself and happy running.
Lovely pic Wenderwoo! Very smiley ๐. Glad you enjoyed getting out there for your run ๐โโ๏ธ. I like the idea of the classical music ๐ถ. Might have to give that a try myself ๐.
Iโve tried all sorts of noise - different music stations, podcasts, etc, but today is the first time it โworkedโ for me. If you have amazon prime music, try the album Classical music for relaxation ๐
Glad you enjoyed your run, Wenderwoo. I think I will limit the news to the essentials from now on.
It wasn't just the news that got to me this morning. I read some really nasty comments directed at those running the Bath Half. Whatever happened to #bekind? Very depressing.
Good point about rationing the amount of news Speedy60....it can definitely get too much sometimes. Hope you have some good running this week. Iโm still chugging along with the C25K + follow on Podcasts and enjoying them. Still a snail but a smiling one ๐
I think the news is upsetting lots of people at present to its not just you that feels like that.
Thing is when people make nasty comments it's more about them than those they are directed at and what I want to know is why so angry?
I was on the receiving end on Thursday all because I had left an interview last Tuesday after waiting 15 mins before it started and I was upset but I am fine now and had a think were the nasty things said to me purely malicious or is there something I can improve on and no when I thought about it it was malicious and I thought why so angry?
โA beacon of kindness and normalityโ is a great description of this forum. Your run, the music and the environment all sound so good. Well done for getting out there. Agree euh you 100% about the benefits of running for health - physical and mental ๐
Looking good, Wenderwoo. Definitely the smile we needed to see.
Today I walked my normal running route with my OH and neighbour/friend. They wanted to get out so we "walked and talked". It was good to stop by the pond instead of running by. Happy running and take care. ๐ฃ๐ค๐โโ๏ธ
