As they say in Dragons Den

I'AM. OUT. I got a e mail saying my goal for Saturday 14th March or Sunday 15th March is to be 22 Kilometres, that is 1 Kilometre more than a Half Marathon.

So no point of me taking my Smartphone to parkrun tomorrow.

Oh no! that sounds a bit much, at this rate of increase you would be running all day long by the end

Read this AlMorr Mine says I have to run 26k which I probably won't do this week. You can run as many or as few kilometers as you like. x

I have looked at the FAQ, it now looks that 22k should be over a week, not a day.

And I don’t think you necessarily have to do that much for it to help the team. Check with linda, who is the Great Guru for VRWC. 😄

You don’t have to reach the goals they set you. If you do reach the goal, they will vaccinate a child in need. But, any kms you run will still count towards your country’s total.

That does seem an awfully long distance goal though! Mine is only 12km this week. I assumed they based it on your recent mileage? Have you been running high mileage of late?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to Sadie-runs

In that first week to get to my present 20 kilometers I ran 6K on the 5th March, 6K, on 7th March, 3K on 9th March and 7K on 11th March. There are a few points I have forgotten about like 6.? and so on to make up the 20K altogether, so as it's over a week rather than a weekend, or is it a weekend I'll take my Smartphone to parkrun. On the FAQ it says it is over a weekend, on my goal app it says over 7 days which of course is a week.

Hi (hope you don't mind me butting in!)

The target has increased by 10%, from 20k, (the distance Al ran last week) to a target of 22k this week. Mine is exactly the same.

As you say, every km still counts whether we reach our target or not. I guess it's important that we don't overstretch ourselves.

You'd better take your smartphone Al 😁

Of course I don’t mind you butting in! (Or properly put, interjecting with a far more sensible response than mine! 😂) Yeah, the minute after I replied I realised that the increase was sensible. Doh!

I'm only thankful I didn't run further last week and get a higher target. 😂

I WILL take my Smartphone Cantstopmenow, but if you read the FAQ the knockout style tournament going head to head are over the remaining WEEKENDS of March, so it seems that 22K is to be run over a Saturday or Sunday, lexi6 says I have to ignore that, she has to run a full marathon for her goal which she is also going to ignore.

I'm glad you're taking your phone. It's all quite confusing isn't it? I expect linda9389 will get her head round it and explain it to us during the week. 😊

Ignore it Alan I’m going to ignore my 40km “suggested goal” well I can run that (in my dreams) Our scores go back to zero for the weekend, so your distance will be whatever you decide to do, not what they recommend. We run for our pleasure and joy, so you just enjoy your parkrun on Saturday and I’m going to enjoy my next run, however little it might be 👍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to lexi6

I will ignore it lexi, I see thay have asked you to run a marathon, ha, yes, I understand why you are going to ignore that, at the end of the day/contest, it's the country with the most kilometres ran that is the winner.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate in reply to AlMorr

😂 can’t even do a half marathon. I’m with you Alan, we’ll do what we can. I’ll be happy when they get the results 100% correct. I read on here that someone had a trip in their car counted as a run. 😂 Go HU 🇬🇧

By the way Lexi this Thursday morning many parts of Scotland have had a little SNOW, but that won't stop me going to my walking club. That person taking a car trip and counting it as a run is a cheat, no time for anyone like that doing the running World Cup, I am not a cheat, I could have used Mapmyrun and gone the long walks I do, that would have counted as a run, I would never do that.

I went a 12K walk up the West Highland Way on Monday, but for the first 3K I went a short run for it to count, but for the rest of the 9 kilometres I switched off the app so the rest of the walk did not count as a run, I hope that person who used his car trip as a run was caught and put out of the competition.

lexi6Graduate in reply to AlMorr

Think world cup website were having issues (still are) with Strava and it was unintentional by the person taking the car trip, I’m sure it will be deleted. My goodness Alan snow? Time you had Spring! now, but your 12k walk and 3k run sounds wonderful. ⭐️

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to lexi6

I think all that happened with the man who took the car trip was that he forgot to switch his device off, if I had forgotten to switch my app off on Monday I would be showing 29 Kilometres run on that list, the snow is now beginning to melt.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate in reply to AlMorr

I’m glad snow is melting Alan I think the problems so far with the inaccurate runs recording of World Cup almost took the shine off the whole thing for me, but I’m loving being part of our HU team anyway. Will do a small run in the weekend. I believe there are a few forum runners doing HM’s this weekend so that will be brilliant for our score. Best of luck everyone. 👏🏻💪🏻🏃‍♀️

Mine says 22k by the 18th. I'm away from home and wont be running again until at least 16th, so it doesn't seem very likely.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to Speedy60

Unless you are prepared to run a HM on the 16th or 17th March which is a big ask.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate

I've not received any email yet AlMorr but you know what just run as you normally do . We are not going to injure ourselves by upping distance all the time 😊

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to Buddy34

That is correct, I read the FAQ and it does say that the second round, that is this weekend is only one day, maybe two at the most, when I got that email this morning my Kilometres ran was 0 with a goal of 22Kilometres, at the most to achieve that I would have to run an HM or 2/11 K runs on Saturday and Sunday, no way. 5K at parkrun on Saturday or a 5K locally depending on the weather.

We know that you can do it though Alan!! 😁

AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to JonnyBeGood

I WILL take my Smartphone to parkrun, so I am NOT out as I stated in my original post.

Go Team GB.

That’s the 7 day target, for me it’s 15km, the fact the round is within that is irrelevant to your weekly goal. Though many will be doing their longer runs on the days for the tournament, this isn’t a professional tournament, we should still run as, when and how far suits us.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate

I fully agree with you UNM, we are to enjoy our runs, not put any pressure on like as if it was a professional tournament 😊👍

Yurtle profile image

My target for next round is 17k. According to leaderboard I did 20km in the qualifiers but the goal page was showing the correct 15k as one of the runs is a duplicate. The good news is we have all week to do it not just the weekend in which the knockout stages will be picking runs from.
