Gremlins πŸ˜ˆπŸ‘Ώ v Conscience πŸ˜‡ over an old injury

β€’11 Replies

I have a niggle in my foot (old injury) and doubting gremlins πŸ˜ˆπŸ‘Ώ at the moment that are squabbling with my conscience πŸ˜‡ and they are arguing about whether to run.

I last ran on Saturday (W7r1). I think I’ve rested the niggling foot enough to give w7r2 a try, but the doubting gremlins πŸ˜ˆπŸ‘Ώ are needling at me saying β€œYou know what happened last time...”. My conscience πŸ˜‡ is a scaredy cat πŸ™€ but telling me β€œYou’ve got to give it a go.”

It’s a horrible feeling when an old injury starts lurking again. You don’t want to push too soon as you know what you face to lose. Last summer this injury stopped me in week 9 and I have been very mindful of it this time round. I have loved getting back into my running. It makes me feel all positive and shiny and bright.

At some point, whether today or tomorrow, my gremlins πŸ˜ˆπŸ‘Ώ and my conscience πŸ˜‡ will resolve their battle. With a bit of luck my conscience will brave it out and be proved right.

Hi CLottie. I’ve just read your post and replied to it. Best to be cautious with an Achilles injury I think. Good luck 😊

Pop those gremlins in a bin bag (tie the top well) and take a caring fairy with you. You are going to try out the foot without pressure to "push through pain" and cause further injury. Perhaps telling yourself it is a practice run and not the real thing.

Maybe try 5 mins running 2 walking (A great trick to increase your speed anyway). If it feels ok the next day then you are back on track for the following day.

Let us know how you get on. :-) Take care.

I like your plan, it’s very wise. I also like the caring fairy πŸ§šπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ idea 😊. I’ll ask her to come along - much better than having those two doubting gremlinsπŸ‘ΏπŸ˜ˆ on my shoulder all the way round. 😊

I am very pleased. Don't know about where you are but the caring fairy may need wellies. I have my eyes on the weather forecast fingers crossed for a break. :-)

I’m in The South Downs. My fairy will need her full waders here πŸ§šπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ πŸ‘’ today. My runs resemble tough mudders at the moment! Today’s a wash out but tomorrow looks better. 🀞🏼

How did you do in the end ?

Hi CLottie. Good to hear that you are making plans to return to your running. Take it easy and take heed of any little niggles. I’ve completed C25k and reached 10k since our last chat and running regularly until a few weeks ago when my niggling old injury returned. I’m hoping to be off the IC soon and already planning my recovery runs. Good luck with your restart. 😊
