Exactly a hundred days ago my cardiac consultant said that I needed to lose some weight and encouraged me to have a go at "Couch to 5K" if I wanted to get more fit. I was exactly a 100 kg that day, and though I was doing a lot of walking I couldn't run further than to cross a road. And there on the horizon was my 60th birthday looming...
Today I ran W7R2 and though it was wet, cold, and windy I really enjoyed it and managed to cover 3.4 km in the 25 minutes. In fact I've run 10 km this week alone, admittedly across five days... in three runs... and slowly. And overall I've walked or run 1.5 million steps and lost 13 kg in the process.
I feel so much better than I did back then - both physically and in self-confidence. And I've got to that stage where I'm now really look forward to the next run. Running a Parkrun before my birthday in three months time is now beginning to look like a practical possibility rather than unobtainable fantasy.
So a big thank-you to everyone here for all the great advice and encouragement, thanks to the C25K programme and, of course, to the lovely Laura!
