Heartbroken 💔

Today I lose my running buddy Sheebs.

Let me tell you about her.

We met her when she was about 5, she was given to dogs trust because her owner couldn’t look after her and her new litter. She came to us with coarse hair, underweight and full of milk. They think she was a stray for a while but when we picked her up 5 Januarys ago it felt like she was ours since forever.

We’ve had so much fun in this 5 years and it was only last September that I decided to go for a run. Sheebs came with me of course and has ever since... she always loved going out with me. She never tired of it. In fact, a few times I only went because she was looking at me with those big browns and I didn’t want to disappoint her.

There’s so much about her that I try to encapsulate in myself, I know that sounds weird but she was the sweetest, friendliest most maternal open hearted girl and who doesn’t strive to be that?

We found out on Friday that she has cancer. Rather than let her go through her last few weeks with pain and suffering we’re letting her go today. But it really hurts to know she won’t be lapping me on my run or begging for my cheese sandwich, watching questionable tv programs when I should be working and guarding our family. I couldn’t ask for a better dog and a sweeter nanny to my boy and a better running partner.

I won’t run for a little bit, I’ll come back to it but I can’t face a solitary run right now. Without her sweet little face it all seems a bit bleak you know?

Anyway, here’s to the canine running buddys. The best kind. Whether they’re running alongside you or up in that doggy heaven may they run wild and free and always get a bit of cheese sandwich. 🐶♥️

Love you Sheebs. Always xxxxxxxxx

She looks so happy in that photo with her tongue hanging out.

Its heartbreaking when we have to let go of a pet. I never really understood why people loved dogs so much as I never had one growing up but we got one when my youngest daughter was about 7/8.

A Jack Russell called Jack we had him for only 8 years he was the best.

Anyway it will be hard to cope for a while but eventually when the sadness eases you start to remember all the great funny things they did and smile when you think about them.

We have Buddy now he is 3 and we love him just as much.

I will think about you and your family today. X

I’m at that stage now when I can remember her without crying rivers and sometimes laughing. It feels good to think of her now. They’re the best aren’t they? They give you years of love and want nothing in return really 😊 we were blessed to have her. Thank you for your kind words xx

Thinking of you at this very sad time. You gave her a very happy life after rescuing her and she rewarded you with all that love and your precious memorable runs. I know exactly how it feels to run with a very loyal dog who helps get you out that door and is by your side like a shadow. Tears are rolling down my cheeks reading your message. Take care and wishing you strength to get back to the running again when you're ready.

Sorry to hear that you’ve lost Sheebs. What a beautiful face she had. I used to run with my lovely girl, also a rescue, until she developed chronic heart failure and passed on. I still think about her looking up at me, encouragingly while we ran by the river which we both loved. She always had more energy than me!

You’ll still feel Sheebs beside you when you run. I have lost 2 wonderful dogs in the past 10 years but still feel their presence when walking/running in special places. Sounds weird I know but life is strange!! ❤️
