Week 4.3 - Feeling fitter

That's week 4 done with no issues. I definitely feel I can go for longer - I think the main revelation is that running slowly is OK. Speed can come later, but keeping my breathing under control is going to be key to longer runs.

I've also started dieting this week - nothing drastic; just cut out snacks, more fruit, and my biggest weapon... bought smaller bowls and plates! No more massive pasta bowls piled to the brim for me! 4lbs down so far - 65 to go :-(

Sounds like you’re doing great 👍

Going slow seems to be something that people struggle with, not sure why🤷🏻‍♀️( although I think the name itself has a lot to answer for!🙄😆) It really is the sensible way to approach c25k, or c230 minutes 😉Build up stamina, speed will/ can come later. Not sure of the stats but I bet a lot of graduates here didn’t hit 5k on w9.

I tried smaller bowls once, I went back for seconds 🙄🤐

Good luck, you’re doing fab 🍀👏

In fact only around 10% of us got to 5K in our initial 30 minutes. It’s 3 times 30 mins that makes you a graduate and 5K comes later. Ignore distance & concentrate on stamina. Did you know research shows slow running is best for your health? Up the Tortoise Team! 🐢🎉

Thanks, and yes I meant w9r3 👍

When I graduated I was approximately 10 minutes per k.

Agreed, speed can come later. I just think aiming for 5k by w9r3 is pointless, fab if you do it but not the failure some people tend to think if you don’t 🤷🏻‍♀️

Love slow running 🎉

Excellent stuff GPS, you are really getting on top of this now. I think you've hit the nail firmly on the head with the speed thing. All of my life I've associated running with going quickly, a running tap shifts more water than a dripping one, a running engine turns over more quickly that one that's just starting. I'm still finding it difficult to completely accept that I'm allowed to run slowly, but realise that if I do, I'll be able to do it for longer as I'll be more in control of my breathing. I do realise though that speed (and therefore distance) will build after the end of C25K (why didn't they call it C230M?). Good luck with the smaller bowls too, I've not made that move yet, but am trying to load mine less and resist the temptation of going back for more (which is not easy!). Week 5 and beyond for you then lad, good luck with it all and please let us know how it goes.

Great going, well done. Slowing down is much harder than it sounds!

Keep up the good work
