Wondering if you can do this?

I’m seeing so many posts from people just starting or considering starting. Can I do it? Sounds too ambitious. I’ll never manage. I’m too unfit. I’m too old. I’ve never run before in my life! Safe to say I had nearly all those doubts (I knew I had stamina as I could walk quite a distance). HOWEVER. I’d never run before (even at school - and I left there in 1972). It follows that I’m a mature runner - started age 63, but I graduated and even managed a 10k run in just over 18 months.

What I want to say is that you can think of excuses to put it off but it’s a tried and tested program so - go on - give it a go!! What have you got to loose? Good luck. We’re all here to support you.

So true Sybilw, another here who started at 60. It was the best thing I ever did for my fitness and health. Within 9 months I was running 10k, and this year I ran the 10 mile Great South Run, much to my surprise.. I only set out to run 5k when I started. My favourite run of the week is parkrun which I ran the week of my c25k graduation.

Here here, I’ve started this week at 53 after a long bout of Illness. It’s blooming tough but I feel hopeful that I can rejoin the human race now. It just gives you a feeling of being alive, I think the hard bits do that most, the fact you keep going when all you want to do is give in is such a confidence booster. Keep going everyone 😊

Well done you. The best advice I can give you is to attack each run with an “I can do this” attitude. Your brain is as powerful as the rest of your body for achieving success. Good luck.
