Just completed w5r2, a sneak view of the next run has me worried = 20 minutes! Yipes
Week 5 run 3 worries!: Just completed w5r2, a... - Couch to 5K
Week 5 run 3 worries!
Most people react like that to the third run, and most are surprised when they complete it! ๐๐
Well done for getting this far. You can choose between getting worried or excited by looking ahead. To help you change your thought, this plan works, it really works. All you need to do is put one foot in front of the other. Take it slowly, trust yourself, trust the plan. There is no race, no target speed. Only to be running for 30mins by week 9. Go ahead and get excited, happy running you can do it
you've absolutely no reason to worry.
You've already done this and then some. Just with a small break in between.
Trust in the program. You're ready for this.
Just set off really slow. Take it easy. If you find you have energy left at the end, kick up the pace then, even if it's only for the last minute.
Slow and easy wins the day!
Let us know how you get on!
Ok, just think about this for a minute, what part of your body understands time? It's not your legs or your lungs or even your heart, it's your head.
You are looking at where it says 20 and thinking TWENTY, don't, you are almost defeating yourself before you start. 20 minutes isn't really that long, roughly 6-7 songs, the problem is your head. This is more of a psychological test than a physical one, the program has prepared your body for the running, now you need to allow yourself to realise that you CAN do this.
Start slowly, don't try to set any distance or speed records, just take it slow and steady and you will get to the end of it, first time I did week 5 run 3 I was running slower than I can walk!
Try to give your mind something to do as run along, a lot of people do maths in their head, think about what they need from the shops, what treat they would like to get themselves when they graduate, etc.
If, worse case here, you are running along and your head starts to tell you that you have to stop then reply back, one more minute, just one more minute.
You can do this, as above, slow and steady.
You can do it!! Get your mind in the right place now and think .... My last run was 21 minutes, sure I can do 20. OK you had a short brisk walk in the middle of your 21 but you STILL DID 21!
You will do it, just as others have said start slow so you don't burn out too early. One foot in front of the other and repeat.
Looking forward to your Wk5R3 post
If you do a search for this run you will find dozens of posts like yours, but also an equal number, if not more, saying "I cannot believe that I just ran for twenty minutes"
This post was written to try to allay some of those fears healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
Relax and enjoy it.
You can do this.
All the runs up until now have prepared you for it. Don't worry you CAN do it. Good luck ๐
I've just completed week 5 run 3. 20 mins running non stop. It was amazing! I'm 60 and have started couch to 5k after a lifetime of non running. I have always bee physically active but definitely not a runner. I found the 20 min run easier than the previous run of 2x8 min runs. Just kept going -slowly! I am euphoric!
Just relax!
Go super slow and itโs achievable. Youโll be surprised at what your body and mind can do. Good luck ๐๐ผ
Felt exactly the same but I did it and so can you. Excellent advice in the comments above. We'll be there cheering you on x
