Feeling blue... I completed my C25K immediately prior to a trip to Australia, for the first two weeks away, I was able to run every other day and it was fantastic, out there running first in Perth, then Sydney, amazing experience, then I got to Adelaide and just couldn't do it, I was puffed within about five minutes and I never managed it again. Four weeks away, I got back to the UK on the 23rd November with the most horrendous jet lag, the best part of two weeks recovery (I am knocking on a bit) and then went down immediately with the dreaded lurgy so I guess thats six weeks give or take and now I feel really nervous about getting out there in case I just cannot do it again, I feel so disappointed.

With so many weeks off, I'd be tempted to re-do part of the C25K program, maybe from week 5 or 6. That way you get some structure back. Or just give yourself an initial aim that you think is achievable and go for it.

Try not to be disappointed, intead get yourself an action plan to get back to where you were.

Hope you had a great holiday, and good luck with the running !

You did it before, so I believe you’ll do it again. Why ever not? After a disjointed break and a lurgy, I certainly wouldn’t expect to be as I was 8 weeks before, but never mind. Start where-ever you are and work up to where you want to be. You are quite a new runner, but you are still a runner.

I would take myself out, either on a known track (for comfort) or a new one (for interest). Warm up walk and off I’d go, not too fast! Just trundle along and see how you feel. If you like, pick up a C25k run about where you feel it’s right. Back to 3 runs a week and build gradually up.

And do keep posting. There’s no place as good as this forum for overcoming these nasty little moments of self-doubt. Good luck. 👏🏼👍😊

Sorry that you feel deflated. With new year coming you may want to join the crowd for resolution and restart running.

Good luck. Do what feels right, give yourself enough time.
