Can’t run due to illness!

Hi all,

So last week I did run 1 of week 9, I’ve been feeling ill for a good 3 weeks now and that was the last run I could manage. Now have a chest infection and pleurisy, and I’m struggling with not being able to run (who would have thought that 9 weeks ago I would be upset not be able to go out running!).

My question is, when I feel better, how do I get back into it? Do I go straight for another 30 minute run or track back on the C25K app and build it up again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

And Merry Christmas to you all!!

Firstly.... relax and just get better... the runs wait.

We , most of us, have experienced short and much longer spells on the IC..so.. as and when you are completely better, then just head out.

A gentle jogette to see how it all feels... your body will tell you exactly what is what...then, decided whether it might be an idea to go back a little and get back to where you were safely and enjoyably.

Feel better soon x

Sorry to hear you are unwell. I completely understand how you feel not being able to run! (Although mine was due to bad weather). I think it depends how long before you run again. I have read on this forum that it takes a couple of weeks to lose fitness. I would try a short run to make sure you are ok then go back to week 9, not that I’m an expert. Get better soon.

get yourself well first then try a couple of 15 or 20 min runs.you will be surprised by how you will have not lost it.

i had bad bout of flu last winter and some lazy time in the summer but was able to pick up nearly where i left off.

Maybe start back with a walk and buildup when your feeling fully recovered..
