SQUARE FOOT IN A ROUND TRAINER!

I have decided that I am definitely going to have to buy some new trainers (at what stage do you buy 'running shoes'?) I have a bit of a problem - I have 'square'ish feet. My first three toes are about the same length which means wearing 'normal' trainers makes my toe sore because of the shape of the shoe. Does anyone else have a similar situation? Oh, I do hope so!

The best thing to do is to Google gait analysis near me and go to a specialist running shop they should be able to help. Good luck 🤗

Definitely go and get gait analysis. I graduated at the end of October and went for gait analysis yesterday. Pleased to be told I have a neutral gait and that my knees and ankles were in perfect alignment! I was recommended to go up a half a shoe size. Looking forward to trying these out but might save them until the ground is dryer, don’t want to get them dirty! Happy running

Yes, I think die to popular demand I should that - thank you.

You may have a long wait to wear those newbies if you're waiting for dry weather!

Hi 59er! Longish post alert! You’re not alone, I have a middle toe that is longer than my big toe, which has always made buying shoes an interesting exercise. But there is good advice below - the key thing is to go to a good independent running shop and they’ll have a range of shoes which you’ll be able to try. Ask for a gait analysis, which looks at the way you move - at the end of which you should have happy feet! Many people end up with a shoe that is half to a whole size larger than norm to allow for sweating and swelling as you run - I did and it really does make a difference. It can be expensive though so if you have a budget, let the shop know. When to buy is really up to you. I bought mine before I even started running, mainly because I was recovering from plantar fasciitis and wanted something to walk in that wasn’t too heavy (though I think they normally say you shouldn’t do both in the same shoes). Other people wait until they’re half way through or later. Hope that helps - good luck!

This is sound advice I think Oldgirlruns. I definitely think I'm going to need to go up a size as my feet do swell during the run so I think I'll bite the bullet and do it as soon as I get back from holiday. My poor toe is feeling the pressure!

I did get a pair at a specialist shop a while back but didn't get the gait analysis done. I developed a problem with my ankle soon after and they gave me inserts! I won't be going back there.

This has all been very useful. Long post calls for long reply 🤣

I have toe issues. Always have since running. My toes seem to like to hang out together so I get blisters 🤨

You don’t need to fork out much for shoes for C25k. Some decent trainers should see you through, and then get some better ones if you want to continue running post graduation.

A size bigger - or maybe more. They are all different! 🙂

I had gait analysis but I’m not convinced. The shoes need to fit well so always try lots on, which is where the proper running shop comes into its own Don’t be afraid to ask to try on earlier models as they’ll be much cheaper

Good luck 👍

Like the tip to try earlier models 👍

You'll find the trainers that are not the newest model can be as much as half the price 🤗

I'll get the gait analysis done and see what they say.

Earlier models is a very good idea - thanks for that!

I buy older iterations and unpopular colours. Unpopular colours are miles cheaper as they can’t shift em. I don’t care 🤷‍♀️😁. My fave shoes of all time were £28. Still are my faves
