Well now let's see, 8 days ago at 72 of age I was on top of the world and the plan was to go out and beat my 5k best of 37 mins 14 seconds. I planned my 1k times and knew which parts of the run I struggle at so all was set. All went to plan and I was ahead of my PB then the Running gods had a laugh and struck me down at 4.4 k with a calf strain. So now I am back on the couch, 5k to couch in a split second. Had all been well with the run I would have come in at under 37 mins, aggggggg!!!!

You are not the first or the last hamit. I hope you are not in too much pain.

Unfortunately it does take time to build up those running legs. Do seek medical or sports physio advice if you are still in pain after a day or two. If there is a tear in the muscle the treatment and time out will be different.

Do you do pre running dynamic exercises? If you pop over to the strength and flexibility forum you will find lots of good advice on exercises for non running days. Hydration is also very important for our running.

Hope you are off the IC soon.
