Weather!

Hi there,

How do others deal with the awful weather atm? I often want to go out and do a run, but by the time I have time to do it the rain is pelting down and I don’t want to get soaked as well as finding the run a challenge, so I just postpone it til another time...but the weather’s been so crap recently that I’m now getting behind with it all....

I have done some rainy runs but find it very depressing. :(

I think the more you run in the rain the more you get used to it. I wear a baseball cap and it keeps the rain out my eyes. I don't mind running in it yet I hate walking the dog in it 😊

My next planned run is tomorrow morning and looking at the forecast it will be raining (which would be a first for me). I'm trying to fight my demons and still push myself out there, I have a waterproof jacket that I run in anyway, and I keep telling myself at least I won't get as hot as I usually do. I have read a number of posts where folks have said how liberating it is to run in the rain, and I do have a cap I could wear (my head has less upholstery now than when I was younger!) and at the speed I go, there's not much risk of it being blown off! I really think I'm going to have to go for it, otherwise may plan to complete the course will come to a grinding halt, I can't expect three dry days a week for the next 2 - 3 months!

Just go out no matter what you'll feel so much better when you complete another run 😊

I find it quite exhilarating, but to be fair I haven’t run in it when it really heavy. I wear a hat with a brim, and don’t worry about getting wet. But I do strip off as soon as I get in, put on some dry clothes, do my stretching, and get in the shower to warm myself through. I also run around a lake, so it’s quite pretty - I might not feel the same if I was road running.

It's pretty when I go running too Wenderwoo, pretty dark so unfortunately I can't enjoy the view, but the good thing is that even if someone sees me, they'll never recognise who I am!

Rain is just wet, you still warm up running, try not to let it depress you and maybe just get out there for a short run you can pick up the time on a dry day

Got to admit, when it's chucking it down I do find it harder to get out of the door. If it starts when I'm out, it's no problem. It helps keep you cool and it's quite refreshing!

I think you'll get used to it. People will think you're mad, but it's not that bad really.

Excellent question! I have discovered that in order to run I need to make friends with the weather. I made a pact with myself to run Mon Wed Fri regardless of the weather or whether I feel like it or not. The other thing I have learned is to dress appropriately for the run....so in rainy weather a peak hat to keep the rain off my glasses is essential. Embrace the feeling of running in the rain knowing a hot shower & coffee etc awaits you. It’s a whole new experience to enjoy that only running offers. The discipline of just doing it helps you become stronger mentally too for tackling the longer runs! Enjoy! ☔️💦

Embrace the rain! So much better than heat. Rain = easy to breathe 🤣

Hi, I've just started the c25k with my partner, having someone to do it with takes your mind of things.. I've done this several times in the past and find the rain quute refreshing.. Having that shower at the end of it is great, and knowing that nothing will stop you from achieving this goal is the best feeling. Keep going your much stronger than you think

Make sure you wear proper running (stay dry) clothes if you are regularly running in the rain. You won’t feel too drenched. Makes a big difference. Sports direct have lots to choose from. I normally sweat loads when I run so I don’t notice the rain! As long as I wear my contact lenses rather than my glasses 🙄 can’t bear rainy glasses 😂

The problem is, I often do a run in my break or on my way between work locations (I’m a cleaner as well as a counsellor) where I can’t warm up or get a shower as easily.

But I’ll persevere as much as I can. Thanks for all the advice :)

I did my C25K; Wk3;R2 then this morning on the way to my Home Help job. I was lucky and there is beautiful sunshine today. Wednesday might be a different story and as I’m hoping to do it in the lunch break at uni, I hope I don’t get too wet! ;)
