Well, that was a lot tougher than I imagined ๐Ÿ™ˆ.. mind you I am 18.5 stone and 6ft 3inches and I havenโ€™t run since schooldays. The impact of my size on my joints was considerable so I purchased sports knee, calf, achilles and front ๐Ÿฆถ bone straps.. and the second and third runs had less pain although my knee know clicks but fingers crossed I have enough support. I have Adidas boosts so apparently they also help..

Well done.

You can minimise impact by following the advice in the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... on minimising impact.

I am not sure that Adidas Boost are running shoes as opposed to fashion trainers, but willing to be corrected.

Thank you.. the man at the Adidas store said they were used by marathon runners and the technology held several distance running world records.. ? I hope he was telling the truth ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I put on 4st 6lbs after stopping smoking that was 6 1/2 years ago then last year I ditched the chocolate addiction . Started brisk walking then c25k. To date I've lost 3 1/2 stone so just a wee bit to go and it's all thanks to running. You can do this ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

Well done! Iโ€™m 6ft but heavy - 135kg - so I spent a lot of time looking for supportive shoes....plus I shuffle rather than run!

Itโ€™s very tough isnโ€™t it with our additional weight. I want to lose the weight obviously but really fear damaging my body long term with the impact over the coming 9 weeks.. I lost a lot of weight before just walking so if things do start to go south I will head back to that method but hopefully not.. good luck in your journey too ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Thanks! How often will you weigh in? Weekly or monthly?

Wildstrawberries profile image
WildstrawberriesGraduateโ€ข in reply toEnxo

I will do it once a week to check. I am too impatient to wait a month ๐Ÿค—.. do you do the same ?

Wildstrawberries profile image

Thank you everyone.. a lot lot tougher than I imagined.. but I completed the first week.. weight is an issue as I donโ€™t want to ruin my joints so I sympathise with everyone carrying extra pounds and their poor knees etc ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.. I lost 2.2 lbs in first week ๐Ÿฅณ.. I eat like a bird anyway so I think itโ€™s just a sedentary lifestyle due to several cancers that make day to day activities tiring.

I did lose 3 stone 4 years ago just purely going on long walks for over a 6 month period so I know itโ€™s technically possible, perhaps this will be a way back to some positive weight loss results again, fingers crossed.

I am stretching as best I can thank you for the kind advice ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ..

Good luck to everyone starting and heading into the weeks ahead. X

Ps I thought this was a NHS thing as part of a healthier lifestyle but itโ€™s actually invented by an American man in the 1990โ€™s.. my doctor recommended it then I found the NHS site so assumed it was their official guidelines but was unaware it was developed by a private citizen who wanted to start running. He seems to have predicted (with this method) the interval training approaches that became popular from the mid 2000s onwards, how interesting ๐Ÿค”

2.2 lbs is great! Well done! 4kg a month would be a great start.

Suggest you try yoga to increase your suppleness, flow of oxygen to your muscles & aid your recovery. For me within 6 weeks of starting yoga it alleviated my painful knees & given me a zest for life again

I do like stretching but Iโ€™m currently too overweight to do yoga but would love to do it if I lost weight through this program, thank you ๐Ÿค—

Yes I too started from being overweight. Iโ€™m now on week 6 and have lost a stone. I found the most important thing is to rest between runs. I have absolutely maintained this and can almost feel my legs and knees getting stronger. Sometimes the night before my next run my knee feels slightly strained but when I get up the next morning everything is fine. Also I keep exactly to the plan, no more no less and itโ€™s been brilliant. The plan is just excellent and feasible. Keep on in there.

Oh thank you for telling me about your journey... incredibly well done to lose a stone ๐Ÿ‘Œ.. such an achievement along with the running too. Yes Iโ€™m doing as you say going exactly to the plan and resting as they say.. Iโ€™m very conscious of injury so do all I can to avoid it. Thank you again
