Sat on sofa contemplating C25K....

I’ve just turned 59 and have put on weight in the last 18 months since I stopped working. I saw a feature about Parkrun on TV this morning and thought it would be fun. However I need to do some training before I even think about attempting it, so thought C25K would be the ideal start. Intend to start Monday, so wish me luck! Also, any advice welcome 😁

Take it really slowly at first, run as slowly as you can whilst keeping a running action. A decent sports bra is a must unless you are very small in the chesticle department. If you decide to stick at it then gait analysis and some appropriate running shoes are worth the investment but for now just go out and give it a go.

Hi, thanks for the tips. I’m looking at running shoes as we speak. I’m going to get some cheapish ones to start off with and if I’m still at it by W4 I might do the gait analysis thing. fortunately I have some sports bras, as I’m I the G cup chesticle department!

Sounds more than contemplating to me - sounds like you have a plan! Go for it. The programme really works. Take it slowly, listen to your body and you’ll be amazed at the progress. Most of all ENJOY! 😀

Great that the show on tv has inspired you to run. Go slow and slower again that's what will get you to the end of each run. Also hydration is as important try to drink 2-3 litres of water per day and not just on run days.

C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here good luck 😊

Go for it! It’s the best program for getting out moving your body and it really does work! Once you’ve decided that you’re going to do it, don’t let anything hold you back from getting those trainers on and getting out there! You won’t regret it! Good luck 👍🏼

Great decision! I started off not really thinking I’d be able to do it, but after a couple of weeks found I can and I love it 🏃🏼‍♀️ Are you using the app or podcasts? If you’re using the app, you can pick your coach. I have Jo Whiley, she’s great, so encouraging and positive, her voice really helped especially in the early days. Go slow and land light - Oldfloss on here said “kiss the ground with your feet” 👌🏻 and have fun!

Well, you sound like I feel. Not sure I’ll be able to do it as I’ve never run in my long life! I’ve set the app up, I picked the comic Sanjeev Kohli as at least he may br8ng a smile to my beetroot face. I like the ‘kiss the ground quote’ as I imagine I’ll be like a cart horse - I will think of that as I start. Thanks for your tips 😁

I made the same decision on my 62nd birthday last September Wenderwoo. C25k is brilliant and it works. I graduated in December and ran/walked my first parkrun in 39 minutes. parkrun is brilliant. One year after starting this journey I've done 18 parkruns and I run 5k in 32.5 mins. Oh and I've lost a stone in weight along the way! Enjoy your journey and keep posting your progress on here, you'll get loads of support and great advice!

I turn 59 this month so we are a similar age. Like you I have thoughts of doing a park run but not until I am confident that I can run 5k.

I am sure you will get there. With winter coming layer up on the clothing keep drinking water take everything slowly
