I too am 57 fit and healthy do lots of sport but have never managed running before due to the pain it gives me in my knees. Thought I'd give it one more go by trying this course. Just completed week 8 run 1 and I've had no knee pain. My thinking is the slow build up of this course has meant muscles around knees are doing their job so joints to take all the effort? I also until week 7 did the strength and flex course on alternate days to make sure I stretched out the muscles properly. Maybe I'm just lucky but I'm certainly happy to be able to run pain free. Good luck.
I had aching knees early on in the program . I bought knee supports which I wore for 2 weeks then never needed them again. Definitely do the knee strengthening exercises as posted by Oldfloss they really help . Good luck 😊
Adding to (not replacing other advice) you can do c25k using the Japanese slow jogging technique. It’s a low impact style of running designed to avoid injury.
One of the reasons I took up running was I was starting to get a pain in one knee and it’s completely gone now (stared near 53 & over weight). It’s worth watching the short film on how to run this way a few times as there are a few parts to it. Mainly the short stride and gentle mid foot landing.
Hope this helps x
