After Couch25k

Chasingwaterfalls profile image

I’m halfway through week 8. I’m really enjoying the headspace and challenge of getting out for regular runs, and definitely feeling the benefits (although my 28 minute run yesterday was really hard!!) Just wondering what people do when they finish? Interested to hear who maintains it, does anyone follow a plan to move on to longer distances, or do people just wing it!

There is a lot of different things you can do. I completed C25K last week and so far this week I am adjusting to running without the help of the podcast. I am consolidating what I have achieved over the next couple of weeks. At the same time considering what I want to do going forward ie.. just keep doing 5k or half marathons or marathons. Whatever I decide I think it’s all down to enjoying what I am doing. Good luck in getting to graduation.

I see from my notifications that you have discovered the post C25K running guide. I hope that gives you enough pointers.

There are no set routes and no NHS follow on app, apart from the C25K+ podcasts, which I feel is good use of resources. Hopefully you have the bug and after a few consolidation runs, after the end of the programme, you will find the sort of runner you are and what you want to do next will fall into place.

Consolidation is the key and then I would recommend trying out parkrun, if you haven’t already. It’s my favourite run of the week. If like me, you aren’t running 5k at that point that’s fine. I walked 5 mins, ran 30 mins and walked the rest when I first started.

Look on the B210k forum later too.

In the meantime, enjoy your journey to graduation

Three things for me (graduated in August) - (1) join local Parkrun so there’s a new rhythm/challenge, (2) set a Consolidation Run target before you make it your business-as-usual and (3) consider an “event” (eg charity run, organised race, etc) so you’ve another target plus get a medal!

I personally think I’m a good way off a 10K yet to do not thinking about that currently but don’t rule it out in the near future. Want to get proficient in and comfortable with 5K first.

Also stay on here a bit longer and start supporting those joint C25K - remember how your sought advice and encouragement when you joined, so pay that back. We all like a “like” or a reply!

Good luck with the graduation

Great for getting to wk8. After you have graduated just work on that 30 minute run 3x per week for a few weeks. Then it's up to you, a 30 minute run a shorter faster run and then a run where you add on a little bit each week oh a and park run, you've got to give it a try if there is one near you. Good luck 😊

I’ve been running for over 2 years since graduating from the C25K plan. I have ran 5K mainly, I’ve ran in 5K and 6K road races. The favorite part of my week is parkrun on Saturday mornings. I just love it, the atmosphere, the challenge, meeting and chatting to people and spending quality time with my Son.

I also ran in a couple of 10K races. But I just prefer 5K as a distance. Enjoy.

Thanks everyone. I’ve only just joined the forum, and it’s great to hear such positivity from people who are doing or have finished the programme. I’m excited to finish, and carry on, and will definitely be trying out my local park run, I think my four year old would enjoy it too 😊
