So I’m getting a bit ahead of myself but I’m thinking of different running routes. It will be nice to have a different open location for when I get to the longer running periods. Is running on sand advisable?

There are a few parkruns where people run a full 5K in the sand, there's one in Wales and the Portrush Parkrun is run on sand, so no harm if you wish to run on the beach.

Running on sand is variable... dry deep sand is very hard work, you’ll feel the burn in the calves for sure. If you get out near low tide and run on the hard compacted stuff it’s pretty much like running on grass.
