Parkrun in the morning 😬

It’s graduation day for me tomorrow and I thought I’d do it on a Parkrun. But now worrying should I do my 5 minute warm up first then start my 30 min run at the beginning or incorporate the walks into the Parkrun?!?!

I’m only covering about 3.5k in 30 mins so I won’t be able to run it all anyway.

Help! Confused!

If you cannot run it all, then you have nothing to lose by doing your warm up immediately after the start. The alternative would be to do a very thorough warm up before the start, but don't miss the new runner's briefing if this is your first parkrun.

Just relax and enjoy it knowing that whatever happens you will set a new parkrun pb.

Have a great day.

Aww thank you. How lovely. I’ll do that. When I think about 12 weeks ago I was chuffed I could run 60 seconds and now I can run for 30 minutes I’m beyond chuffed! Thank you ☺️

Parkrun is fantastic, people are great and you will never be last! Personally I would warm up before (not missing new runners briefing), then enjoy the whole event and graduation, you might even surprise yourself. Please let us know how you get on!

Good luck and enjoy!

I was in a similar position to you when I did my first Parkrun. I used the first 5 minutes as my brisk walk to warm up. It allows a lot of the congestion at the start to clear and makes things more pleasant 😀. Don’t worry there will still be people around you and behind you.

Consider volunteering at some point, especially being a marshall, it's the best thing ever, you get people saying thank you to you constantly for 20 minutes to an hour!!

I did the same RiaT to graduate. Used the first 5 minutes as a warm up & stayed near the back. It’s difficult not to get caught up in the enthusiasm that is Parkrun. Just try to stay at your own pace & enjoy!! Look forward to reading your graduation post ( l still listened to Jo Whiley whilst l ran too) Oh, don’t forget your bar code. Have fun today👍🏻

You can do your warm up walk before the start or at the start of the parkrun. Doesn’t matter. The main thing is you are enjoy it today, happy graduation xx

Hi - do 5 minutes warm up walk at the start - you might be surprised just how fast you can walk! Don't worry if you are at the back of the runners - you will probably catch some of them up. Use today to learn rather than run a race. ENJOY IT!

Sadly I’ve simply bottled the Parkrun today. Spent most of the night worrying about the whole thing. Think I’ll wait until after my 3 weeks of consolidation runs and get my speed up a little. I’ll use all your fab advice then!

On a positive note though... off out on my graduation run!!!! Get me!!! Have a fab day everyone. ☺️

I haven’t done Parkrun but I did a charity 5k and I was ridiculously worried about it beforehand, so you’re not the only one! BTW everything was fine even though I’m very slow and did walk/run. I hope your run today went well.

Sorry to hear you didn’t make it to parkrun. Once you do it, you’ll see there was nothing to be scared of. I did my graduation run at a parkrun. Like you, I was nowhere near 5k in 30 minutes, so did my warm up at the start of the “run”. The spirit of parkrun really pushes you to do well. I ran for 32 minutes the first time, finishing the 5k in under 40 minutes, which amazed me.

On my third parkrun I managed to run the whole 5k for the first time. Two months on, I finished in under 35 minutes for the first time today. I 💕 💗 ❤️ parkrun. Can you tell?
