Hi everyone. I realise that I’ve probably left it a bit late to do my first ever post but I think it’s probably because I felt I would have fallen off the wagon by now ! I’ve just run for 30 minutes without stopping which for me, is going some so obviously I’m encouraged by that but (there’s always a but !) I only got a smidge further than I did in 28 minutes which is a tad annoying. I think I deliberately went out slowly to make sure I could get to the end so hopefully W9R2 will see a bit of improvement. My 59th Birthday is looming in a few weeks so I’ll be interested to see how far I’ve managed to get by then (currently nowhere near 5k...) Sorry for long post - I do tend to ramble on !!

First of all you're doing great and secondly , don't worry about pace or distance . The point is you are completing each run. Getting to 5k in 30 minutes is something not a lot (including me) of people manage on wk9r3. Good luck with your next 2 runs 😊

Thanks for the encouragement Buddy - much appreciated 👍🏻🙂. I’m certainly not expecting to get anywhere near 5k for a few weeks at least !

Hello and welcome! We are of a similar age, and I graduated just over a month ago. I hadn’t even reached 4K by then. After consolidation, I started doing Parkrun, and that’s when I first reached 5k. Still takes me about 44 minutes! Don’t worry about it. It’ll come with time and practice. 😊

Well... the best thing a runner can do when they extend duration or distance is to run slower than usual. Thinking back I was trying to cover the same distance as the week before on the run 1s... relaxing in run 2 and again in run 3... don’t worry about distance and pace yet... it’s still all about time... and will be for a little while longer if you follow the recommended route of consolidation after graduation.

Have a great couple of runs to close this plan out, especially that last one as it will be the celebration of the journey to that start line. 5k will come later... pace too if you want it too... but right now is the time for grinning at how awesome you are.

Thanks UNM 🙂 It’s weird, I can’t say I actually ‘enjoy ‘the running thing presumably because I still find it quite draining but I’m pleased that I’m committing to it and am determined to get to the end. My hope is that, with time, it’ll become easier and less of a slog 😬
