New runner and 52!

I finished week 1 yesterday, I’m looking forward to week 2 which I start tomorrow, I’m not too worried about week 2 but have looked ahead and slightly worried about what comes after. I’ve read lots of stories and posts on here and feel very inspired. Does anyone have words of wisdom for a unfit 52year old who has never really run before?

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and is full of tips.

Don't look ahead, trust the plan, take it one run at a time and be prepared to be amazed at yourself.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you 1 run at a time. I’ll trust the plan from now on and just enjoy it.

Words of wisdom is not to look ahead, wait for the instructions from your coach, a lot of people do look ahead and worry about the forthcoming runs, so my advice is to not look ahead from now on

Congratulations on completing week 1 of C25K and welcome to the forum. Onwards and upwards to week 2 but just wait for the instructions from your coach.

Well done you. C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here. A lot of us hadn't run before starting c25k. Just trust the plan don't look ahead at future runs . Each week prepares you for the next . Good luck 😊

I've just finished week 3. 36but very overweight and while I enjoy fitness I've never been a runner. A trick I've found for taking away how daunting the next week looks is my very last run on run 3 each week I try to push myself to do the extra (insert minutes) before I do my cool down walk. By run 3 each week I've found I'm managing the run so adding that extra bit at the end doesn't seem much of a challenge but prepares me mentally for the next week as I know I can already run x number of minutes. Good luck, hope to see you graduating just a couple of weeks after me.x

Just realised I'm contradicting the comments above but this is what works for me. I dont look ahead until that 3rd run though.

Seems like each person has to find their own way. It’s really good to hear how everyone manages the weeks though. 😃👍🏼

The only advice I can offer is don’t look ahead - just take each run as it comes. If

you do look at what’s coming up, don’t forget how well you’ve done so far and that each run is preparation for the next - so if you’ve done that, you can do the next one!

Spoiler alert.

Week 9 you run for 30 minutes.

Hello 😀 I started on my 53rd birthday, fat and unfit. I was really daunted by even running for 1 minute and was so out of breath and sore afterwards but I stuck with Laura, repeated weeks to build my confidence (still working on that one 😀), was encouraged by this forum and just come back from running 5.5k! Keep with the programme it really works 😀 and I feel so much better for it. Oh and Birthday was in January 😀

Hi. Thanks for replying, it’s great to hear from people like yourself especially that you’ve run 5.5k well done you. I won’t worry about repeating weeks but I’m taking it 1 run at a time. I start week 2 today and am looking forward to it! 😀

Hello Pippa! Don’t be worried, honestly trust the programme, just slow and steady, don’t rush, and you’ll be fine 🏃🏼‍♀️ Oldfloss said to tread lightly - “let you feet kiss the ground” - and this has been brilliant advice - I think my knees are thanking her for it! Enjoy it and before you know, you’ll be looking back in amazement at how far you’ve come 👏🏻

What the others said... don’t worry about what’s ahead, trust the programme, have fun putting a great collection of running music together so each song is a treat and think about adopting the Japanese slow running approach. And don’t think about age - you’re a whippersnapper compared with many of us!!!
