I had my first run that didn't go to plan yesterday. I think I set myself up to fail though. I'm working away from home and discovered my company has a gym 15 mins from where I'm working. I couldn't get there until the end of the day and was absolutely knackered due to a 5am alarm following 3 hours sleep. When I got to the gym it was packed and it was a little like walking into the slaughtered lamb as everyone seemed to stop and stare at the stranger. I felt very self conscious and just wanted to get it done and leave but I had to have an induction first. Once that was over I found the treadmill and it was completely different to the others I have run on so it took a while to work out how to use it. I did the warm up walk and started running but after 5 mins my calf started to cramp. I pushed through and by the time I had run 11 mins my both of my calf muscles were rock solid with cramp and I had to stop running. I tried walking for another 5 but I was in agony so called it a day. I then realised that I hadn't done any of my normal pre run stretches! Total c*ck up on my part all round really. My legs are still a little sore tonight!
I'm going to do it again Thursday morning when I back on home turf. I perform much better first thing too. Oh well, one set back ain't too bad I suppose?
Sorry for the long post.
Happy running everyone!
