On the second running interval had a bad cramp in my left calf and had to limp 2k back home... Annoyed and a little surprised.
I suspect I should’ve done a better job hydrating and stretching pre-run.

You've guessed correctly drink plenty water have a rest day and try again. 😊
Also be careful stretching pre run. Best to read up but think you need to do dynamic stretches if it's before and static stretches after.
You know your own body but I'm not sure you need to worry about pre run stretches at this stage.
