Week 2, run 2 tonight. Knee supports on both sides, and afterwards I had trembly knees that were telling me they didn't like being woken up from a nap, but I'm not actually leaning on furniture to get across the room.
We went out of the office, 5 minutes walk up to the park, started our reps, when Flash! Bang! Slosh! a thunderstorm erupted directly overhead, and the heavens opened. I now understand the literal meaning of 'soaked to the skin'. I really don't think I could have been any wetter if I had put my kit on and stepped into the shower. I'm presuming I worked up a sweat because I didn't actually get 'cold' cold, though the rain stung. And hurrah for the experienced runners advice to put the phone in a ziplock placcy bag. Sod's law, of course, saw the rain ease off just as we were walking back to the office . . . . . .
I put a microfibre towel over the car seat to drive home but it still has damp patches (which I'll have to manage driving to work tomorrow - probably by using another, cotton, towel). My shoes were actually going 'squelch' walking to the front door. I even had mud and twigs and grass clinging to my socks and calves. Peeled everything off, towelled down, and dry clothes on.
The two fabric/elastic knee supports are placed over wine bottles to stop them collapsing and help them dry, shoes are stuffed with crumpled newspaper and on top of the kitchen radiator (not on), but I need these dry and usable by Saturday afternoon. Any hints, or do I just go out in damp shoes and knee supports if they don't air-dry in time?
I'm not suffering much except the knees, and I'm just hoping that if I keep at it they will strengthen. But looking at the extended running intervals for next week is a bit scary. And to be frank, it's not 'running', it's more just beyond the point where a walk becomes a jog-trot. But so long as I can keep to the programme it's got to build stamina, right? Errrm, right?
God I need a glass of wine now. So I'll knock back a large tumbler of water first, then pour one, if I can wobble my way to the kitchen.
