One of the places I ran week 7 of C25K last year
Nice photo : One of the places I ran week 7 of C... - Couch to 5K
Nice photo
Simply stunning!
Looks a lovely place to run π
gorgeous Al, where is that?
It's Milngavie Reservoir 9 miles north of Glasgow, there are many runners who run around that reservoir, I was there on Monday, however, I only walked round it this week as on Friday I will be running a full 5K in the same park as I will be running my first Parkrun a week on Saturday.
What a beautiful setting for a park run! I hope you have a great time on Saturday.
Beautiful place to be doing your first Parkrun. Enjoy it, as Iβm sure you will πππΌ
Just something really nice about running next to water . Where is that photo taken π
Milngavie Reservoir, 9 miles north of Glasgow.
Brilliant capture Al
Yes indeed John, on week 7 last year, it was the third run, I ran right round that reservoir in around 18 minutes, so I still had 7 minutes before the 25 minutes were up, I decided that those 7 minutes should be ran along the leafy quite roads that are near that reservoir in the direction of the station, I got on a train 15 minutes earlier than usual when I only walk round the reservoir.
Wow, what a gorgeous place to run! I'm coming to Scotland on holiday in August, can't wait to run there.
Which part of Scotland are you coming to on holiday in August? Perhaps it's a tour all over Scotland?
Milngavie (pronounced Millguy) is also the place the 95 mile West Highland Way (a long distance trail) begins, 95 miles to Fort William, near Ben Nevis begins, on Monday there were around 20 back packers starting that long distance walk.
Thereβs a nifty run for you someday, Al! π€£π
Wow, 95 miles is a good long stroll! And Ben Nevis to climb at the end of it... We are going to be staying near Applecross which looks very beautiful. I have discovered that there is a duathlon there every September so I will try to find out the running route for that and give it a go. Wish we could be there for the real thing!
In the winter months I walk up the first 5 Kilometres of the West Highland Way, then leave it and go on another part of the walk between two golf courses, last December about a hour before sunset there came a man dressed only in a T shirt and shorts coming in the opposite direction that I was going just before I left the West Highland Way running at I would say 20 minutes 5k pace, I was amazed at seeing this man as there was no-one else in the area at the time, very strange, there are plenty of walkers who climb Ben Nevis the day after completing the 95 mile πΆ walk to Fort William. π
Just beautiful Al π
Beautiful. How uplifting. Enjoy your run. It's pronounced "mull-guy" if my memory is correct π happy running πββοΈ
It's pounced mullguy by people who live in certain parts of Glasgow, think Billy Conelly or Rab C Nissbit.
Ah that makes sense- I've got friends in that area! I'm in Lancashire.
Hi Cantstopniw, some very posh people in some comedy sketches pronounce Milngavie as it's spelt, it sounds quite funny under these circumstances "you come from Milingavy", some of those people come from a posh area of Glasgow called Cathcart or Kelvinside, they pronounce Cathcart as "Cethkert", quite the opposite from people from Govan who pronounce Milngavie as Mullguy.
And the weatherβs always sunny there, right? π€£ Looks gorgeous. π
No, it's not always sunny there Granspeed, when I ran my third run of week 7 round the reservoir there was a very light drizzle, it's close to the hills as you can see in the photo, if I had ran nearer home I would have remained dry.
Iβm only a couple of miles away from the reservoir - never thought about running around it before. Any idea what the distance around it is?
I have never ran or walked around the two reservoirs at Milngavie, Craigmaddie and Mugdock, I would think altogether its about 4 Kilometres, next time that I am there I'll either walk or run around both just to find out exactly how long it is, I will take the Mapmyrun/walk app with me.
Beautiful....I did my run in our local country park recently, just a heron and some rabbits for company. My usual runs are along the seafront, which I never get tired of either. We are lucky to live near such beautiful places!
Fully agree with you regarding the many beautiful places that are in the UK, I ran my graduation run along the prom at Helensburgh on the west coast of Scotland 42 miles away from where I live. π π π
Long way to go...I'm guessing you didn't make the journey purely for the run π
I travel a lot locally, I visit that place often, usually I go somewhere on a Monday, so I had a big choice for where I should run my graduation run, as my days during the 9 weeks of C25K were Wednesday, Saturday and Monday, Monday was always the third day, it was a Monday that I ran run 3 of week 5, so it was a Monday also that I ran my graduation run in a different location, the other days when I was doing C25K were run locally on the Wednesday and Saturday.
Wow! Wish that was near me!
I don't exactly live near that reservoir either Ang, I have been going there for a very long time, when I was only 5 my father took me and my sister there about two time a month, that was in the 1950's, in the 1960's I went walks round
