2 months ago I injured my right knee - not running but trying to get to my seat on a train!!!
I felt a ‘pop’ and immediate pain
When I tried to get off the train 90 mins later my knee just gave way
Anyway after a few weeks of rest / mobilisation etc etc I dragged myself to the GP - said there was some ligament damage to keep resting / mobilising / supporting etc with painkillers as required
Also booked me in for X-ray and physio
Results of X-ray received today and there’s evidence of Osteo-Arthritis - got an appt to discuss next week
I still don’t really think that’s the only problem though ( but who am I to know) - yes knee does stiffen after resting but easily eases
I’m more bothered about it giving way randomly not being able to twist my knee without a LOT of pain and being unable to bend my knee - for example to crouch down or kneel
I haven’t really run since the incident - have tried to walk ( wearing a knee support) for about 30 mins twice a week for past 3 weeks and that doesn’t seem to have made it any worse or better
Anybody have any similar experiences or can shed any light on the situation??
Thanks

Oh gosh... well we are no medical experts so, our advice would always be to follow whatever advice you get at your appointment next week. The trouble is, even if folk have similar issues, they will not be the same... and treatment or advice for them may be detrimental to you...
So, go to that appointment... and see what is what... Here is a link that I sent to someone this morning.... also asking about running..with Arthritis ..
Sorry to hear about your knee pain - I can fully sympathise as I have an old sporting injury from years back (a partial cruciate ligament tear)
Long story short I use a knee support for running (don’t bother for walking or normal day to day stuff) and find it helps - I also had gait analysis done and bought a decent pair of trainers and honestly feel that’s helped too
As Oldfloss says, best to be guided by the Dr and everyone’s experience is different even if the problem is the same. Imo keeping walking and getting a decent knee support will hopefully help but maybe wait and discuss it with your Dr 1st...? 🤗 x
My advise would be go to your appointment equipped with questions you want answered, short term prognosis, long term prognosis. Talk to them about running. Ask about rehabilitation and getting back to running. So often at these appointments it is assumed you don’t exercise, I have always found telling them what I would like to do usually prompts honest feed back and advice. Good luck. Rfc x
I would ask for an MRI, mine showed cartilage damage and arthritis but sped up my surgery. Recovery is slow and steady but pain and knee giving way is cured now, had op in Feb and did my first run today. Hope you get it sorted and back to running soon
