Bit of a shock

Run 1 week 4 came as a shock. Massive increase in running. Started as usual then realised water is now needed as part of the running kit and jacket is not needed as getting really hot. So ran in a circle back home to collect one and ditch the other. The first 5 min run was a killer, but the second one was fine! How strange. Finished the run feeling really good, but not looking forward to repeating it. I guess it’s all mind over matter from now on.

If you make sure you drink plenty of water every day of the week, unless the weather is REALLY hot, you probably won’t need water during a run. My group is on week 8, and none of us drink during the run, and one is a 71 year old like you. HOWEVER, if after ensuring adequate hydration, you STILL need to drink, then go ahead! 😊

Thanks for the advice. I’ll drink before I go out on Thursday and see how I get on.

I have about half a pint twenty minutes or so before running, but make sure I am well-hydrated every day.

Lots of us find the first 5 minutes of any run hard. After that my legs seem to give in to the inevitable & up their game. It’s not all in the mind, as your circulation apparently really changes, but knowing to keep going is defo a mind thing. 😊

Drinking water steadily every day really does help. I’m a thirsty mortal but never on runs. Glug it down when I get home though. 😄
