Well, I the words of Jo Wiley, some people find W6R1 a bit of a shock. Never a truer word spoken Jo! After running for 20 min on Monday, my thoughts were that today was going to be easy. Not so. I found those 8min runs quite a challenge. However, knowing that I wasnβt alone in that was a great comfort. I honestly think I would have been totally demoralised had I not had those words of encouragement. Just goes to show what a great program this is.
So I think there is a lesson to be learned today. Believe in yourself but donβt get too cocky π

The thing about Week 6 is that it stretches the length of the session again. W5R3 is actually the shortest session since Week 3.
There's 18 minutes of running in W6R1, spread over 24 minutes (not counting the warm up/cool down walks). That's 4 minutes more "active time" than W5R3 had.
W6R2 has the same running time as W5R3, but spread over 23 minutes.
And then W6R3 goes to 25 minutes of running.
This phase (weeks 5 and 6) is all about stretching the amount of time you're active first, then increasing the proportion of that which is running time afterwards.
Week 7 is consolidating on what you've already achieved. That's when I started to experiment with different routes.
- I've just finished week 7 with Jo and after doing the 25 minute run on week6 R3 - it was a bit of a shock to find out I had to do it all over again three more times in week 7. My head thought I wouldn't be able to do it, but actually it has been fine (after the first 5 minutes of each run) and at the end of week 7, I am feeling like increasing it up to 28min will be simple and then 30min is only a couple of minutes more. I have felt my fitness increase over week 7 - but whether that is my head or my body, I am not sure. Good luck with the rest of week 6 and know that week 7 is do-able too π
Thank you so much, that is very encouraging. I will be doing W6R3 on Sunday, my first 25 min run. I really hope I can manage it. As you rightly said, it is so close to the 28 then 30 min mark but still a little daunting to me. I will be so happy to have achieved it though!
It was weird, I found if I just kept on going then I completed the runs. Even if I thought at the beginning that there was no way I could keep going, I just did and it happened. Now I've done it four times, it has become more realistic and 28 minutes seems possible. The program really is very clever π
