Week 3 complete.. So disappointed

I’ve been struggling with my knees/ shin splints? 🤔 for a week now and been pushing through but today I completed w3r3 and I’m in agony. I know I need to let myself rest before I get back out there but honestly I feel so angry and disappointed. I haven’t ever been a runner or a gym bunny but I have really enjoyed this journey I’m on and now I have to put it on hold. ☹️

Am I going to have to go back to the start again when I’m recovered?

Any advice is welcome please.

Sigh. 😒

In a lighter note I do hope everyone else is doing well though? 👍🏻 Xx

Great job getting a third of this plan done... be proud of yourself. Injuries aren’t always avoidable, and you’re doing the right thing to take some rest. You’ll be back... hopefully in a few days but if it persists it’ll need checking by a physio/doctor.

Have a read of the guide in the pinned posts, and these may be useful too:

runnersworld.com/uk/health/...

runnersworld.com/health-inj...

Strengthening work will help once the pain has gone... NHS strength and flex is in the guide and both articles above have good advice on this.

If you’re out for two weeks or less then you won’t lose any fitness... worst case scenario you start again, but this time you know you can do these weeks and you know you enjoy running.

I got myself injured about the same stage... I was gutted for a little while, and angry at myself as I got the injury by being an idiot, but then I thought to myself “that’s my first sporting injury in 30 years” and I immediately felt better about it... I was pretty proud of it to be honest! You’ll be back... that’s what matters really. This plan will change and extend your life... but that can wait for you to heal, there’s no rush.

Hi, sorry to hear that your c25k journey has been paused.

Have you read the post on shin splints ? I don't have any other advice but I am sure there is a solution, be it changing trainers, your stride, your running surface, etc.

More experienced people than me will reply.

Hang in there.

I’ll have a look at the post of shin splints but no I haven’t read it, thank you very much! And thank you for replying. Means a lot 😊

I can't cut and paste for some reason in this forum from mobile but look at the Pinned Posts. There is a post called FAQ. Click on there and scroll down nearly to the bottom and there is an article about shin splints by IannodaTruffe, one of the admins here.

Sorry you’re having problems. I would strongly advise you to see a physio, preferably a sports physio, to assess the problem. They will tell you whether or not you need to see a GP. Also, when you’re recovered, get your gait analysed. It may be that your shoes are wrong for you.

Don’t lose hope. Depending on how long you are off, you may not have to go back. I lost a week due to sickness, and still moved up a week without any problems. However, with your leg problems, you may be off longer, so may need to go back. It’s not a failure. Think of it as strengthening your foundation that you have already built. You will still be running, which you weren’t a few weeks ago. Good luck! Xx

We’re all in it together, which is what makes this forum such a great place. We’re all hoping you get sorted as quickly as possible, and hope you don’t get sad or angry because of your injury. Xx

First of all congratulations on week 3, you must of course get your injury checked out, but, do not feel angry or disappointed, that’s just the gremlins! Listen to their opposite, the run bunnies, they’ll tell you this journey is far from over no matter how long it takes and look how far you’ve come! You’ve already made the first steps once and once your body is recovered you’ll take it again 🤪🤘🤪🤘

Thank you rich, I’m going to keep positive about this. I’ve finished sulking now! 🙂

I am genuinely gutted for you TeeBedders, wish I could give you advice on what to do but I'm new to this running lark myself. Hopefully there's others on the forum that can point you in the right direction. Try and stay positive and fingers crossed you'll be back at it in no time 🤞🤞🤞✌

Hi I totally understand how you feel as in first 2 weeks I suffered from shin splints terribly! Turns out I wasn't warming up enough! Unfortunately for me the 5 min walk to warm up wasn't enough for me so I found some exercises to stretch my calves, shins, hip flexors and hamstrings and I've had no more problems 😁 I'm now on week 5 awaiting run 2 and loving it!

Oh no! Just seen this. How are you doing now? I have to say when i got my gait analysis done and the new trainers, my knee twinges have stopped. I think a lot of my pain was due to being flat footed. Have you had your gait looked at? Might be worth it. Anyway i do hope you are on the mend. We are here to cheer you on when you get going again. 😊

Hello! I’m doing much better and my knees feel back to normal and pain free now. I’ve decided that tonight I’m going to do a run again and see how I go. Had a chat to my friends husband who is a physio and he’s given me some tips. I’ll keep you updated! ☺️ And thank you! X
