While doing C25K on a cross trainer will develop your cardio fitness and to a degree build muscle, it will not have the same effect as running on a treadmill or outdoors, simply because it is the very impact that you are trying to avoid that stimulates muscle strength and bone density. So, to be frank, you probably won't find running much easier after graduation than now.
All that said, you will get fitter and probably thinner.
The stretches for post run, as linked to in the guide, will be appropriate for you after your workout, as is all the advice on diet and hydration.
