Race photos. πŸ˜€

While completing my HM this year during the 13.1 miles there were some highs and lows within the run. I think the race photos captured it very well πŸ˜€.

It was two weeks ago tomorrow and I’m nearly fully recovered and back building up my distance again.

Have a great running weekend

Those two photos sums up the feeling of many runners, especially in longer runs of over 10K, the photo on the left is best, that looks as if you are near the finish, not sure which kilometer you are at in the photo on the right.

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduateβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

The first is around 13km I think I’m in zone and happy then, the one on the left is just before I hit that zone, I always struggle so much. If I broke the HM into quarters

1st - I am ok getting going

2nd - starting to struggle and wonder what on Earth I am doing

3rd - loving every minute

4th - ready for the end but strong.

It is a strange beast πŸ˜€.

Thank you. I like the fact that in my 50’s I can go out in public in hotpants and fluorescent pink socks and not get a second look πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

Training is all you need and the mantra slow and steady as you build up. πŸ˜€.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and that is definitely true here. Brilliant :) Well done Rfc!

Thank you, I do find it comforting to know the second photo was actually taken before the first πŸ˜€.

Absolutely! One of the things I say to myself is 'Just because it is hard right now, doesn't mean it will carry on being hard'.

Thank you. I have found over the years braiding my hair the day before an event makes it perfect for the morning. It is all ready to go without having to do anything. 5:30 am is not a good time to be faffing around with hair πŸ˜‚.

good point well made... I do a night plait at the back so I don't wake up with a wig explosion... it has been known not be re-done first thing if I'm rushing out early!! PS - just read your profile, tear to the eye job for me. So lovely.

β€’ in reply toRealfoodieclub

Would you suggest taking water out on shorter runs?

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduateβ€’ in reply to

It is a personal thing. Yesterday in london it was very hot and I probably would of taken water out for a 5km. I am a sweaty runner and I lose fluid very fast so I need to replace it, on normal temperatures in the winter I take water out with me over 10km and in The summer that drops down to 7km. I have two ways of carrying it. The photo is my bladder pack, a 2ltr Plastic bag that goes neatly into a runners pack back, I also use a belt with two little bottles that I call my holster, just because I reminds me of cowboys πŸ˜€. The best thing is to see what you need, if you are dipping in energy before the end of your run on hot days try taking some water and having a sip from 1/2 way and see if that makes a difference. Happy running.

Thank you. Great advice! I will try that next time I go out when it’s a wee bit warm.

When I run HM I’d take the look on the right for the whole 13 miles, possibly sporting the look on the left for the 0.1 at the end 🀣

Thank you. You know that 0.1km at the end is the longest 0.1 km you ever run πŸ˜‚.

Love the photos! :) What a Lady!!! :)

Me - I'm finding that anything over ten miles is venturing in 'Brutal Distance Territory". I guess we all have our individual distance limiter - otherwise Runners would not see an FM as their 'ultimate run' but would be ever aspiring to increasingly long Ultras :)

I find it so hard sometimes to recapture the 'magic' that making my first three tenths of a mile nonstop brought - it really did seem the 'ultimate high' :) And I am a bit narked at myself that walking a mile or two in the St Louis HM made me feel so down for a while...hanging on to an 'attitude of gratitude' and also keeping it fun is sometimes as much a struggle for me as the highest of those hills :)

I don't get to run at all with you amazing Forumites, which is a major regret - but hopefully next Autumn will remedy that to some extent :) That and the general fun of the usual runs is a boon indeed in life :)

Thank you. I have always said I Run in-spite of my body. My heart rate slides quickly and my joints are riddled with arthritis but somewhere along the line run/walking came into my life and I love it. For me it has the right balance of fun, exertion and distance. For me the runs are

1-3 km hard

3-5 km still hard but getting a bit better

6-7 km settling in nicely thanks

8-12 km starting to motor along

14-17km I am flying and am in my sweet spot, I am happy.

I couldn’t get anywhere near this distance without my walk breaks to reduce my heart rate. After 7 mins of running my heart rate is 188 so I have to reduce it by a little walk break but distance is my love in running. I am lucky I suppose because of the way my heart works I have never scolded myself for a walk break after I graduated. For me getting my body to run for 30 mins was crippling but I did it. Now I know that if I had to do that every run I would never do anywhere near what I do now.

Just have fun with your runs, they are yours and yours alone to make them into whatever you want them to be.
