Eugh! First Blip Run ☹

Sorry, I am about to ramble on πŸ˜‚

Today was run one of week 7.

Jo went on strike so Laura stood in. She suggested that if I had been running on a treadmill up until now why not take it outside? So I did.

I wasn't going to run until tomorrow (yes i had had a rest day) but The Husband came home from work early and announced he was "going for a run" He makes 5k look effortless and easy and this unfortunate LIE made me decide to do my run today. Outside.

At 3pm.

When it was hot.

I live in Wales. Hardly anywhere is flat near me.

And i took the dog (i was sticking to single track hardly used country lanes at the edge of the forestry and my thinking was that the soft as anything, will do whatever for food Labrador would protect me from potential murderers. You can't be too careful when you can't run very fast!)

My dog doesn't walk in straight line and likes to get in the way.

I saw a beautiful red and black butterfly on the lane on my way out.

When i returned it was squashed flat.

A bit like my self confidence! πŸ˜‚

God my legs hurt. For the first my shins felt sore and my knees started to twinge. I could barely lift my feet off the floor they were so heavy.

A snail passed me.

So......i didn't manage 25 minutes. I had to walk in between every 5 minutes or so. But, I got out, I enjoyed the scenery and i feel better in myself even if a little disappointed at how much harder it felt outside. I wish there was a nice flat canal near by but sadly not.

So i think i will finish my c25k on the treadmill then take it outside but go back to week 4 and build up. Sounds like a plan?

Oh you poor thing, I can feel your disappointment. I think circumstances conspired against you. Imagine how much nicer that outdoor run might have felt if you had been running in cooler temps, if you hadn't had the dog getting in the way, if you hadn't noticed the poor butterfly's sad demise... Yes, go again on the treadmill for your next run and get your confidence back but don't write off the outdoor running just yet - it's good for the soul, honest! Is there somewhere locally that you could drive to for a flatter route?

Thanks for the encouragement. I needed that!

Yes, i think you are right. I should have waited until this evening or tomorrow morning and left the dog. I was being lazy and killing two birds with one stone and combining her walk...or snuffle! Luckily it was quite shady in parts and probably not as warm as i thought it was!

My ultimate aim is to get running outside but unfortunately where i went today is the flattest i can think of and a drive away anyway. I'm sure it will get easier. Maybe i will graduate twice...first on the treadmill and then again outdoors!

aww Lindsey, it must be your turn for a poor run day, remember I had one wednesday and you gave me encouraging words and a good talking to😊 - well now its my turn to say its not a disaster just a blip- blame your husband for coming in early if it helpsπŸ€”πŸ˜‚

up to now you have done really well with your runs and everyone has a bad day, might have been the change to outside, maybe not. Might have been having canine company , maybe not. Might have been the heat, maybe not. Have a rest day, sunday is a new day and I am sure you will be back on form, we are going to do thisπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜Š

Thank you so much.

It is definitely harder outside. Even though i run on an incline on the treadmill, the shock absorption is a god send. I think it might be time to get some decent trainers before trying outside again 😊

I don't think i will count this as my week 7 run 1. I'm going to repeat it on Sunday (inside!) as i need to complete it. Today was an experiment and even though it didn't go as hoped, i feel better for it 😊

That's the spirit! We are all bound to have the odd run that doesn't feel great, for whatever reason but we can learn from them, or at least just shake them off, and move on. If you do go ahead and redo the programme outdoors, with all those hills to run up, you're going to have buns of STEEL! πŸ˜‚

It's ok running outside is different and maybe a bit harder it just takes practice 😊

Thanks. Definitely harder, but it is my ultimate goal. I just have to be so careful of my knees, every time before now, when i have started running from scratch, it has been outside and by week 4 the knee is gone and that's me out. I seem to be ok on the treadmill but i am hoping that this will set me up for repeating the program outside and by then i will hopefully be conditioned enough to avoid the injuries of the past! Onwards and upwards!

Ah well L-j - there are lessons to be learned in every run! And I’m sure the dog had fun, even if the butterfly didn’t!

Yes just redo it on Sunday. Sounds like you had a lot to contend with, and, much as I love visiting Wales, the HILLS!!!! I had to redo 2 of the runs πŸ˜‰
