I downloaded the app ages ago. Fear of failure is stopping me starting. Ridiculous

Start - you’ll do great! I put it off for a year and I’m on week 6 now and no looking back. Stick with the programme and you’ll be amazed what you can do.

No, old at 58, your joking, many here on C25K only started in their late 60's or early 70's, get out there and start the course.

You're giving me hope! Thank-you!

I used to run but haven't done so for ages, and feeling terrified (for lots of reasons) at 60!

No! I’m in the second half of my 70s, so no talk of “too old”, please 🤪👍

I started running in April and am on week 8, I am in my early sixties. I just jog at a slow pace but I am out there doing it. Good luck

Not ridiculous! The hardest part of C25K is getting out there for the first time and the only way you’ll fail is if you don’t try at all! Go for it!

You can do this Jo! I'm 58 too - started the programme in Feb this year, thought I was going to die after my first 1minute run and am now enjoying running 30mins or so every other day. So I'd say it's probably the perfect age to start! Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Everyone here will celebrate your good runs and commiserate with you if you have bad ones and cheer you over the finishing line at the end

The first one is the hardest. It took me ages to make that first one, but I’m so glad I did

You'll do great, it's a great plan, just take the running nice a steady and your confidence will grow.

You got the app, that's step 1! You must want to do this. I am ever so slightly older than you, never really run before but wanted to get fitter. I made it a kind of new year resolution and started late January feeling the excess of the holiday season! Yes, I wondered if I could really do it. Yes, I had some moments along the way. But I did it! You can too. Good luck!

I downloaded the app and thought about it for ages before the time was right for me to try it. I think a period of mental adjustment to be sure that I was going to fit it all in properly and give myself every chance of success. I was scared of trying too and got very nervous before running. I still get that at times even now for some reason. The sense of achievement you'll get from every single run you do will be amazing no matter how hard you might find it. And the forum is great support! Good luck! I hope you're soon getting your first run buzz feeling!

Don't be scared - just go for it - I am 58 too and I have never run for more than a bus before this..and the bonus is that I lost a fair bit along the way. Now aiming for a run three times a week...trust the plan!

Go for it. I never thought I’d be a runner, now after starting C25K in November I’m 1k off a half marathon. It’s just one foot in front of the other. Respect the rest days and I’m sure you’ll end up enjoying it.

Start it’s such a good programme - I told myself it’s ok if I had to repeat a run or 2 it’s getting there in the end is what matters - fast forward 9 weeks and graduated just now, no runs repeated and I’m sure that’s because I knew it was ok in my head - good luck you can do it 💪

Read Jay66uk's post received this morning. You will be amazed what you can achieve with a bit of grit and determination.

I started my journey last Feb just before my 58th birthday. I will never be running a marathon or setting speed records.

Go on you can do it.😊

I was really worried I was too unfit. I'd put on loads of weight and couldn't keep up with my kids. My first run I couldn't manage all the runs I did 5 out of the eight and walked extra. My second run was the opposite, I felt amazing.

The guide explains how to get the best out of the plan and has helped so much. W3R2 today and look forward to it.

Good luck and hope every one helps to inspire you to give it a go. 🙂

I’m 50. I’d had the app on my phone for two years before starting it. I started in January on my own in a place and at a time where nobody could see me because I felt a fool. Starting to run at my age! I’ve just done Week 9 Run 1 so I’m nearly there. It’s taken 5 months and two goes to get here. I did five weeks then was ill in bed but I’m stubborn so I restarted. I’ve repeated runs I’ve found tricky and been running when I didn’t feel like it and I’m nearly finished. My aim is to run in the local park run but I’m not sure I’m confident enough for that yet. People I know might see me running. I run like a snail. I’m still stubborn though so I imagine I’ll do it sometime soon. Just start the first week, what have you got to lose?

Jogunlikely profile image

Why not start with a pre C25k plan? Many on here have done. 🙂 So pick your run days say mon wed fri then for a week or two go for a 30 Min brisk walk on those run days.

Brisk walking will elevate your heart rate and help prepare you for the running. It will also help get you into the routine of the program.

Good luck 👍💪🏃‍♀️

"Failure" is allowed, nothing wrong with that. "Success" is desirable, but not essential. Who's judging? Fresh air is great, to be outside this morning before work, running / jogging / walking, good to be alive!

You can't fail as long as you stick to the programme. And no, you're not too old -I was 66 when I did it last year and now I run 3 times a week. Just get started - good luck and happy running 🙂

Sybilw profile image

I started last year at 63 and I’m still going! I’d NEVER run before. Tell people you’re doing it so that they can follow your progress - I put it on Facebook so that I couldn’t back out. Everyone will be glad to support you and be a little bit in awe. It’s a process not about speed so if you can get your head to believe it’s possible you’ll manage fine. Go for it!!

Just adding my voice to those of my fellow runners. Please don't be scared to start. On 1st Jan this year I hadn't run a step since high school. Today I did a "nice, gentle" 8k before breakfast and I weigh fully 3 stones less than at the turn of the year.

I know it's easy to say don't be anxious... I definitely was and I did my first 4 or 5 weeks in the dark because I didn't want to be seen running in public. But once you start, this will quite literally change your life.

I wish you all the very best for run 1. Get your diary or calendar and plan it now. Buy running kit. Tell your friends or partner. Or just do it quietly. But, be warned, once you start you might well get addicted!! :)
