Hey I’m into consolidation runs but was wondering do all you established runners still do the 5 mins on either side of their runs OR can stretches replace this?

5 mins brisk walks??

Good question! Xx I also want to know what the advice is on this. I quite like the 5 min walks and I have done ‘additional’ stretching now too.
Definitely do the walks, warming up and cooling down are very important. All training programmes at any level; beginner/intermediate/advanced will advise you to warm up for 5 mins and cool down for 5 mins. I'd stretch as well after a run.
You'll feel better for it during the day, and on your next run.

Both, I do some stretches before I go for a run before I leave the house, then go at least a 5 minute walk to the start of the run, when I have completed the run I just continue walking, if you are running in a park, don't sit down on the nearest seat until you have at least had a 5 minute walk and have done a few stretches.

Elite athletes with super efficient bodies still warmup and cool down...........those of us whose bodies are not quite so toned probably need it more than they do.

Parkruns: they seem to only do the stretches? Lots of standing around chatting / waiting before & after....
