Did a short 20 min run yesterday morning. It was bloody hard!!!! It’s not my legs and it’s not my breathing. I don’t know what it is but it’s just hard. I had a fabulous holiday but it’s done nothing for my stamina!!!! Could have done with some consolidation time after graduation before having a break.
Will go again in the morning and hope it feels a bit better. Any hints anyone? I’ve downloaded some podcasts to distract me and changed my route around. I’m so impatient!

First I would say start with slowing down a tad and see if that helps. We all have a slightly slower pace.
Check on your hydration, see if that needs a boost.
If you are still struggling maybe worth a chat with your Gp. After graduation I got to 10mins in and flagged, I then found out my ferritin levels (iron) were low, so it always worth a general chat if nothing else works.
Thanks for this. My bloods are ok as had them checked for something else recently. I guess it’s hotter now than a couple of weeks ago...though this was a 6am run. Hopefully things will pick up?
Go back to week 4 of the program and do the program again. Slowly build it back up with the target of a goal at the end.
Take the pressure off. How about trying to run for the joy of it. Stop timing yourself and just find somewhere pretty and interesting to run, set out nice and slow and if you feel like stopping, slow down even more.
Oh and next time you go on holiday, take your running gear with you 🏃🏾♀️😊😶
Just remember you've graduated so you're running for fun now! Put week 9 on and let Laura or your favourite coach you through. Go slow, slow, slow and steady. You're just at the start of your running life, plenty of time. Good luck and enjoy your running
I agree with Helen, don't put too much pressure on yourself, forget about time/distance and just have a nice morning run, slow and steady. Absolutely nothing wrong with 20 minutes, it's amazing that you think that's a short run 😄. Just shows how far you've come. 🏃♀️
Ha! That’s true I suppose. My bench mark is 30 minutes now. I think I’ll do 20 again tomorrow and go easier on myself. Good luck with your final run. When are you going?
Some runs can feel like this.. and we often do not know why..but the good news is, there will be days when runs are fantastic.
Slow it down and do some runs just for pleasure..just because you can... try short ones... new routes... ( I can maybe helpful there ), some 30 minute ones too, but no distance in mind... and if you can find the time.. lovely longer, see where you get to, runs...I do my longer runs on a Sunday morning...I have no plan for how far.. i just run... and see where I end up They are the ones that build up, strength and stamina and continue building up the running muscles too!
On some of your rest days, non impact exercise will help too, as you carry on running. Yoga, Pilates... swimming? gardening, house work, strength and flex anything non impact.
Check hydration is good too as Realfoodieclub suggests... every day not just run days or warmer days...
Just relax... all the runs count and even a 1K is worth it... I am building back up after a spell on the IC and I have only just got back to 5K ... but this morning.. I just did a 1K.. slow and steady round the block
So... when you head out again, steady and slow and simply enjoy x
