Little advice please

I’ve had gastroenteritis for last 3 days. Feel lot better today. I’ve noticed my resting heart rate has gone from 59 up to 75. I’m really missing running, ive cancelled my personal training sessions this week. Do I need to wait till my resting heart rate has gone down before I run. I read on here a while ago (not sure who said it) that if it raises by more than 10, don’t run. Thanks. Happy running all! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Not sure about that one Shelley, as you are a regular here on C25K and I am as well, usually people here can advise you about runs, but more medical questions should be left to professional people like doctors, perhaps someone with more medical knowledge can advise you about that, there again you could go to your doctor for professional advice.

Did you take your resting heart rate at exactly the same time of day under exactly the same conditions (eg activity, sleep, hydration, nutrition and external influences) each time?

If not, it may just be a natural rise caused by your actions.

I have never heard or read the advice not to run if resting heart rate has risen by 10bpm. If you remember where you read it, I would be very interested to know.

If you feel well then run. Letting our technology rule our lives doesn't seem like a good approach to me.

I think it may have been ktsok. Also it’s my Garmin it records it 24 hours a day, and averages. But could be because I haven’t slept.

I think that is highly likely.

Gastric issues will leave you a bit dehydrated as well so make sure you have topped up properly before you attempt a run. When my resting pulse was up like that I still had an infection, if it dosent come down it would be a chat with your Gp. I waited until it came down to run. When everything has settled try a speed walk first before a run, that will give you some indication if you are ready or not but if I where you I might leave it a couple more days I’m afraid. Take care. Rfc x
