Anyone else's knees hurting?

Hi fellow runners!

I went for a 30 min run this morning, just over 3.5km so about my usual speed. I warmed up, stretched, went slowly at first...cooled down, stretched some more......all the usual things. So, why I ask, are me knees a bit sore and 'crunchy'?

I have noticed this before, kind of ignored it really...but I'm a bit concerned about it becoming an issue...I've heard of someone who's knees became crunchy....and it stopped her from running 😳😪

In your position I’d invest in a session(s) with a sports physio, you don’t want to compound a problem that could stop you running, and they may very well be able to help you fix it. Sorry can’t be more helpful, but it’s something that should be looked at by a pro.

I’ve been running for 2 years. My left knee gave me a niggle after Parkrun last week and a 7K run on Tuesday. So I have just given it a break, I’ve been resting ever since and using a foam roller. I’m running tomorrow evening and I’m hoping all will be ok.

Maybe just take a rest for a few days.

I think you should follow DiscoRunner's advice. It will probably get worse if you just let in. Until then, as damienair says, have more rest.

Do you run on a good surface? Wearing appropriate running shoes?

Hi Elisabeth 3, yes, had a gait analysis done, got the proper shoes, usually run on pavement?

I thought and hoped you had the gait analysis and good shoes. But these are among the first things I would check.

I find pavement too hard. Try jogging in a park, after you recover. Less impact on the joints.

I am, by the way, only amateur, not calling myself a runner at all.

Get better soon.

If you google crepitus, you will find lots about that funny noise and possible causes.

Yes but be mindful the range of causes is quite broad and many people have clicky or crunchy joints without it being a problem at all. It’s all about being sensible with what you read and if it’s new and/or painful, go and see a physio if you can 👍
