It's not just the change to your reproductive health, it is a complete shock to the system. The hot flushes and insomnia, the weight gain, the brain fog, the aches and pains, the lethargy, the anxiety and tearful mood swings. It didn't creep up on me. I woke up one morning and it was there. Bam!
I have decided that exercise is the way forward. I want to exhaust the healthy eating/physical activity avenue before seeking medical intervention. I have completed 34 x 5k parkruns around the Midlands and managed to raise money for Dementia Uk along the way. I haven't managed to run the entire 5k as yet and my best time is 38.56.
I have joined this forum in the hope that I can share my middle aged, sweaty and sometimes downright embarrassing escapades and maybe along the way I will come across some like minded people and maybe some other women of a certain age experiencing similar life changes.

There is an excellent website. It’s an nhs GP with special interest in menopause. You should look at it... menopausedoctor.co.uk she is totally brilliant.
I am now on hrt patches after going to a training session with above mentioned GP. Realised that she was describing me when she explained peri menopausal symptoms to the group!! I feel SOOOOO much better. Obviously it’s very personal but to think we need to put up with and get through the menopause is a very old fashioned way of thinking.
I keep thinking the symptoms will go away - which they did for about 6 months last year. And then they creep back up on me and several more months have gone by.
I have a bad track record of going to the doctor for ‘me’ as I’ve spent a large chunk of it caring for other people and their appointments always came first. Not used to doing it for myself - as it were.
Read up first. Arm yourself with reliable information from a recognised source. Then go to GP. You do not have to put up with this. Years ago women died not long after menopause, now we hopefully live many many years after AND we need oestrogen, just less and less as we age.

👟 5K by 50

😴 sleep through the night!!
Right, really must stop picture posting now!! Having too much fun!! Jobs to do and stuff to pick up that Storm Hannah has blown over in the garden!!
Happy C25K! Looking forward to hearing how you get on crushing the menopause!!
I’ve been lucky. So far symptoms have been very slight, but I think you’re right, exercise and healthy lifestyle can’t hurt! Certainly running is good for improved bone density especially in long bones. Something that is more important post menopause.Good luck with the running.😊
