Approaching the end of C25K

Hello all, I thought I might finally make a post here having read many inspirational stories from you all.

I have been progressing through Couch to 5K since February, having aborted my attempt last October due to a severely sprained ankle. Up until then I literally did no exercise at all and never ran in my life. I used to do mountain biking about 6-8 years ago but it all took a back seat when I had kids and a sedentary office job took over. I was diagnosed with depression back in September and my sister (a regular marathon runner) encouraged me to start running for my health and mental well-being.

Since my accident (ironically, I sprained my ankle on a bike ride!), I have been working up the fitness and strength at the gym for the early runs and progressing through fairly well. Most of the first few weeks I did on the treadmill - I really am a fair weather exerciser! I started the week 8 runs with a new pair of Salomon Speedcross 4 trainers and I have started tackling more hills and off road trails. So far so good. I have signed up for a 5K "sunset" run at Warmley Forest Park in August; and also the 10k Bristol Epic in October. I should be OK for that by then!

I have one more run to do in week 8, and then the three week 9s to finish and graduate. I am no longer fearing the long runs with no breaks. It seems like only yesterday I have to do the first 8 min non-stop run and finding it really hard. Now I seem to be able to get into a groove and just keep going, and I find I can keep going long past the official stop point because I still have to get back home!

My best time for 5k is 30min 38seconds but that was on the flat on Bristol/Bath Railway Path. I have managed to keep running for 6.97km.

I wish you all good luck and happy running!

Welcome to the forum.

Take care about exceeding the plan. It is gently progressive for good scientific reasons and when you graduate it is a good idea to find another gently progressive training regime to take you forward.

Doing too much too soon is a sadly common theme on this forum.

Keep running, keep smiling.
