The long silence broken!

I have not posted in the 9 weeks since the heady days of my graduation but I thought a quick update was probably due! My theme has been consolidation consolidation consolidation. After graduation I soon extended my 30 minute run to 5k (in about 33 minutes), continuing to run 3 times a week. I have settled for two different 5k routes (for both variety and comparison) and a 3k route with the aim of going a bit faster. To make it feel a bit like C25K I have continued to label my runs in the same way - I did W20R1 yesterday and I am just about still in Week 20 of my running real time so I have managed to avoid slipping. I have (very) gradually gone faster and did my first sub-30 minute 5k yesterday. So slow (?) but steady progress in the 9 weeks since I graduated. I am thinking of extending one 5k route to 6k over the next couple of months..we shall see. 🙂

Well done on your sub 30 5K and such a great achievement...lovely to read what people are up to after graduation and such a good idea to still label the runs and think I may have to pinch that idea too !

Thanks. The labelling really helps me keep track of where I am and has encouraged me to continue to run 3 times a week. As I have my three different routes I know if I am on R1, 2 or 3 so know if I am slipping. Usually its because events force me to have more 2 day rests between runs but then I try and catch up again!

Fantastic and very well done. Getting sub 30 minute 5K after 9 weeks of being graduated is brilliant. I’m only running consistently sub 30 minutes now after 2 years. Congratulations. Are you doing any Parkruns yet?

Thanks. A Parkrun is still on my todo list. Mainly an issue of busy and precious Saturday mornings and fitting in with someone else’s timetable. I have found it best if I run before breakfast so I am usually out shortly after 7 and finished by 8 so starting at 9.30 seems like late morning! 😄

You are so FAST!!!

I giggle at the thought of ever getting to 5km without running for a whole hour (I'm sure I could walk 5km faster than I could 'run' it!)

Well done on keeping to your routine. My one day on, one day off has been my main focus to keep me on-plan (with an extra rest day for achilles pain, and 6 whole, horrible days off due to a chesty cold).

Still on schedule to Graduate before my 'big' birthday! And then the 'real' work begins I expect.

Thanks. Speed is not everything but I find it helpful to have a few targets to aim for. If you have a mixture of speed, length and run frequency you can switch your attention as things develop and your mood changes. I don’t expect to get much faster anytime soon but if sub-30 becomes my norm I will be quite chuffed!
