Today is the day I should be doing W9R3. The last three runs have been difficult with legs feeling like lead and no enjoyment, just sheer determination and exhaustion. It's not an obvious virus but something's going on. I was flying before with the euphoria everyone talks of. I suspect my immune system just had enough. Like others I know once you've had glandular fever, which I did decades ago, it never completely leaves you and it's been a recurring theme all my life. Bit like the ME and fibromyalgia some people get. So, I shall ease up until I'm over it, return to week 7 or 8 gradually and finish this thing. This isn't new, if I get stressed or eat too much sugary junk and certain foods I'll get this and cold sores so I am going to find a way for running to be something that doesn't aggravate this but is part of the cure. Anyone else get this? Suggestions?

You are defo doing the right thing! I am a recent graduate & was doing fine and then had a really dreadful March. Thought the exhaustion after my cold would never go. But in the end it has gradually gone off and after lots of rest and several discouraging weeks of thinking “no, not yet”, I am finally on the way back. Listen to your body and take things gently & time and some sunny weather should do their job for you. Good luck. 👍🍀

You have my sympathy. The glands in my neck are an accurate guide to my well being - have been since gf in my teens. It's only as I've got older I've learnt to listen to them!

This may sound a little old fashioned but have you thought of taking a tonic? Not the G&T kind 🍸 😂

For the last 2 winters I've been taking vit D. I had been to the doctors with the complaint that I just didn't feel right. There was nothing in particular just I felt my battery never recharged past 60%. All bloods came back normal except vit D which was almost non existent 😕 A high dosage course and I felt like a new woman!

My surgery don't test vit D as a normal test so I did have to request it.

Not sure if any of this is much help 🤷‍♀️

Wise words from you too, thank you. It helps to know other people get a kick back from having had GF too but sorry you are affected. Spoke to one of my daughters at the week end who is the family medic as she's an OT and she said she'd always suspected I had fibromyalgia. Anyway, this morning I felt much better and did a run but I am absolutely zonked now.

Well done on going for your run. It must be very frustrating for at the mo that it completely wipes you out so here's a hug from me {♡}

Is your daughter able to suggest strategies for minimising the effects of fm?

I know there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that diet can help some sufferers a lot. Not 100% sure but I think Ella of deliciously Ella fame suffers from fm or me.

It’s low impact and could be very useful to you to get you through the next little while. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Dr Rangan Chatterjee’s Feel Better Live More podcasts while running - there’s loads of interesting ones about stress so you could give him a try too.

You bang on! It works and is such a delightful video. I shall go and look for the podcasts now. I managed a run earlier, tentatively, but managed it but in serious recovery again now xx
