Parkrun OUCH

Attempted my first park run today without any prior training 😬 That didn’t go so well but I’m at least happy to have started! Hoping following this programme will get me ready to be able to complete it by the summer 🏃‍♀️ Is anyone else just starting out?

Not too sure if you should have ran a parkrun BEFORE starting C25K, your next parkrun should not before you have at least completed run 3 of week 5. 🏃 Onwards and upwards to run 1 of week 1. 😊 🏃

You’re totally right - it was too ambitious but actually I just did half of it and felt good to at least be part of it! Looking forward to run 1 week 1! 🏃‍♀️🤞

Welcome to the parkrun family, as you see 5k is not easy! (And quite a long way!)

However, all parkrun aims to do is create a regular habit with you. You do not have to run parkrun, and you don’t have to be following C25K either, walkers are equally welcome. If you want it the C25K programme gives you a bit of guidance and structure to follow, which has been highly successful for many.

Many people here use parkrun as one of their 3 ‘runs’ including the warm up walk. When you finish the podcast just walk to the end of the parkrun route (or however you feel)

I hope you keep going to parkrun, the beauty of it is you join in as and how you wish, walk, skip, hop, whatever you wish. Plus of course, it’s a great social community, there are options to volunteer too. (I was tailwalker at mine today)

Very well done for giving it a go, good luck with the C25K programme. 👏👍

Thank you so much for your encouragement! My plan is to do as you say and use parkrun as my third “run” of the week. I just did half the course today and still felt a sense of achievement! There weren’t really any other jog/walk/jog types at my one but I keep reminding myself that it’s a battle with myself, not anyone else! Thanks again for your kind words. Jx

Well done getting to parkrun... but coming here is an even better idea. So, you can now visualise your 3.11 mile course nicely... and you’ll run it this summer no doubt. Don’t worry about getting to 5k while on the plan, run nice and slowly and let your body develop. Enjoy your journey.

Thank you - feeling positive and you’re right, joining this community seems to be a great decision 👍

I totally agree with Madge, nothing to stop you doing parkrun, but while you are doing the c25k just stick to the plan on your parkrun days.

I started parkrun on my graduation and have either run or volunteered most weeks, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. I just love it.

I did that, thought I HAD to be able to run the whole 5k, and you don’t, my only regret is I didn’t go to parkrun sooner......I am now an addict....😄.....and yes, my Christmas Day and New Year’s Day now both start with parkrun.....👍😎
