Bunion pain!!!

Does anyone else find pain from a bunion is getting worse with running? I am going to be doing wk4 run 3 tomorrow and do not want to give up as I am really enjoying it but the pain from my bunion is awful. Even when I'm not running. Funnily enough when I run I dont notice it as much but when walking in general the pain is more noticable. Any tips everyone? Thanks in advance. I'm not giving in to it though. Would just like some pain relief tips! Thanks guys. X

Hi my bunion has a mind of its own! It can go for months with no pain and then flare up for a bit. There is no correlation to exercise that I am doing.

Check with your Dr but I think the pain comes from inflammation and the body laying down more bone.

So maybe anti inflammatories on the bad days. And you can stick your foot in ice cold water to help!

Thanks I'll try that. I've had it for years but I think putting more stress through it is causing inflammation. I'll try the cold water and anti inflammatories though. I refuse to let it stop me though! Thanks again.

My bunion pain comes and goes but when it is flaring up, I feel it more while running. Make sure you have a trainer with a wide toe box so there isn't any extra pressure on the bunion. I'm also really careful when I buy new trainers to make sure there isn't a seam or anything over it that may aggravate it further while running. I don't usually take anything for it, but anti-inflammatories if your tummy can tolerate it is a great idea.

I run with bunions on both feet. Good running shoes are a must. I like mizuno. Wide and comfy. I had a gait analysis and tries others but these were good for me. And good socks to minimise rubbing. I've been running for almost a year and the bunions don't hurt at all up to 5k. After that I do feel them. Havent yet found running shoes specifically to fit bunions, my walking boots are bunion boots.

I have some gel toe protectors I wear on the toe next to my big toe. I keep my nails short and grind off hard skin if any builds up.

I thought my feet were too bad to ever run but to be honest running has improved them!!

Are they new trainers? That is the only time my bunion hurts...but when it hurts, it hurts. I feel your pain.
