I would just like to mention that I got to week 8 run 3 when I picked up an injury which will put me out of the running for around 6 weeks.
I know what happened and I would like to warn against what I did. I was loving the running and with week 9 in sight I had started to talk to people about it. Alot. And it must have inspired some as a couple of people asked if they could run with me. Up till then it had just been me and the spaniel but my ego quite liked the idea.
I should have stayed solo because having said yes I found myself going out to suit them and it ended up with me running 4 days on the trot and - there was the injury!
My learning here is - tell the ego to take a hike, stay solo if it makes me happy (it does), and put myself first.
If I had just stuck to plan I would have completed week 9 yesterday. I am really disappointed but can't wait to get back. My physio says another 5 weeks and I will be back at it. I am so proud of where I have got to but really want that week 9.

I have a friend who's discovered in running and suggested we go out together. I've told him to wait till I've graduated.
The problem in finding is that running on my own is hard and I know it would be easier and more fun if I had someone to run with, especially now the distance/time has increased.
Determined to get to the end but struggling to stay motivated without a running partner.
Thanks for your thoughts mind, totally understand what you're saying, maybe the solution is to be a little more selfish and make your friends run when convenient to you, not them 🤣
So sorry about that OnUp, as you know that the number 1 rule of C25K is to never run on consecutive days, two days in a row, you ran four with your experienced running friends and you landed on the IC.
I Just hope that it won't be too long before you can get back to running, however, as you will have been off running for more than two weeks and you say that it will still be another 5 weeks before you can restart it means that it would be wise to go back to week 1 as by then you won't have been running for nearly 3 months.
Oh poor you... you must be gutted... such a pain to get an injury so 'close to the finish line'... so thanks for the advice.... and I hope it doesn't hurt too much, and that you can find other fitness things to do during your time off running so that you are ready to go when you are repaired!
We do bang our heads against walls trying to get this message across.
Thanks for posting this.
I have a collection of posts from people, like you, who were brave enough to admit to their errors and I would love to add yours to the list, so that I can produce them as evidence to doubters. Would you mind if I put this in the catalogue of horror stories?
Sorry to hear this happened to you. We live and learn, and you’ll be back. I hope the injury isn’t too bad and heals quickly.
I think it’s great that you’ve posted this... many wouldn’t have, and while you’ve learned the lesson the hard way, maybe some people thinking of changing the plan will learn by reading this. Well done there.
Do as much exercise as you can as long as it won’t aggravate the injury to maintain fitness as much as you can. 6 weeks will obviously mean you’re not coming back where you were, but hopefully you won’t lose much. Your attitude to this is great, and you’ll be running that week 9 soon. All the best.
I’m glad I read this, my daughter has asked can she do this with me, and much as I would like the company she can be a tad late or have other commitments, so I would end up trying to do 5 runs in a week to suit others situations. I’m only at the start of this journey, week 2 run 1 tomorrow even though it’s sunny this morning and bound to be raining tomorrow. I do hope you are able to get back to the plan and thank you for the heads up.
It must be something about daughters! I also have this problem with mine and as a result I'm now on W8R2 and she is back on W1R1. I think it's best to do your own thing -0 then you can go at your own pace and run when it suits you.
I havnt ran for 2 weeks due to achilles problem. Did my normal 3 a week: Mon, Wed, and Fri and decided to do my first park run on the Sat morning (without a days break). This run went well.
However, rested Sun and ran on Mon; thats when my achilles reacted. I didnt feel right but still ran; perhaps another days rest would have helped.
I ran, ignored the plan, got injured, out for months, had to start from scratch.
Came back, IGNORED the plan again, supreme idiocy laced with lofty arrogance, managed to run the course and got badly injured on my graduation day. Injury that l was developing for weeks but decided to plough on through pain, as lofty arrogant idiots do. Months off again, running from W1R1 again.
Came back, finally played it by the book, asked and listened to all sage heads on the forum, got careful to the point of spirituality and, guess what, haven’t had injuries for several years, except for a recent accidental minor fall. I wonder if my new found conduct and subsequent success were in any way related....hehe...
Thanks for posting this. I can completely understand how running with friends can very easily go pear-shaped and yours is a very sobering warning. C25k is brilliantly structured - if we follow the rules, but other people can unwittingly sabotage our plans. Hope the healing goes well.
Hear hear! I did something similar and had to stop running for 10 days. So my graduation is tomorrow when the rest of my cohort graduated last week. I was very lucky it was only 10 days.
Stick to the programme folks - it's honestly the best way.
Feel for you very much, and thank you for passing your experience on. It is a timely reminder to me/us all to stick with the plan despite temptation to do more - you are not alone in that one as recently I have been getting feelings of 'can't wait, won't wait' and have had to give myself a stern talking to. Wishing you a full recovery and to getting back on track. SP
