Havnt ran in nearly 3 weeks. Due to stress of family and college. I feel terrible! I need to get my motivation back!

I’m not a doctor. But I prescribe a run tomorrow. Take 30 mins out of your day every 2 days and go for a run. It will clear your head and make you feel better. As Nike marketing team would say, ‘’ Just do it’’.

Damien.

I’ll second that I stopped a few years ago and it took me 2 1/2 years to get back to it again and start biggest regret going back to the big inning again this time I’m regularly doing parkrun and registering ahead for events to help motivation ...... we’d love to see a post run post tomorrow best of luck

Running will give you your own space and very likely make you feel better. Just go slow and enjoy!

Hi just try to get out, if you do congratulate yourself

If you manage any running be pleased, it will make you feel better and get your mind thinking more positive thoughts

Good luck, give it a go and remember bad times pass!

Almost everyone goes through this at times. You are not alone, although it feels like it. Put your kit on, as if you were going to go out. I often find that once I've got it on, I can't not go...

But remember we are with you, whatever.

It easy to fall into bad habits as negativity breads negativity. You can beat it by doing a little run at first one you know will be easy. It will boost your mood. Stress comes when we have problems we can't fix immediately. Break the problems into smaller chunks and only do what you can. Meditation helps too

Second all replies, a run will make you feel better, so many run for mental well being more than fitness. I was a regular runner years ago, then lost my beloved Labrador suddenly and was grief stricken for a long time, couldn’t run as everywhere I went was places I took her and it’s hard to run and cry!! I’m back to it now and wonder why I didn’t perservere before as it would have helped me so much. So I say go, even if you walk most of it, esp in stormy weather, you never regret a run, but you will regret not doing one.

I’ll add to all the others - it’s the running that will make you feel better! One thing I noticed quite quickly was that nasty nagging self critical voice disappeared (you know the one - the one that’s most cruel often just before bed). I think it was not only because I was actually doing something but that the benefits to my mind and my thinking changed *because* of the running. So the stress of everything will get better just by getting out there. And if the running is hard just learn to run slowly! There’s a great little film on youtube showing the Japanese slow jogging movement - it really helped me to learn to run. Hope you get back into the running. We’ll be here to support you. Best of luck x

What you need is to get out for a run. That's what you want to do so just lace up and go.

Well, after a break we always need some extra motivation, for different reasons. We might feel that it's going to be so horribly hard, that it's going to hurt, that we are not going to enjoy it. The good news are that it takes a while to lose what we had gained in terms of fitness. It might be a bit harder, but you get back to where you were in a couple of days. Choose a route you particularly enjoy. I try to run through places I find beautiful and inspiring, even if it means a bus ride to get there. See it there is a good coffee shop at the end, where you can put an extra layer on, so you don't get the shivers, treat yourself with a warm coffee and stop for a moment to feel how good it feels to be alive and to have this amazing body. And to live in this country with this incredibly beautiful places where we can run in peace and have a cup of coffee at the end. I am always overcome by gratitude. Every single time.
