I knew the sun was going to be an issue but it's not even full on summer yet! But I just couldn't run the whole way today for the first time.
Firstly I was pretty undecided up to the last minute whether I was going to go for a walk or run. I'm supposed to do Tues, Fri and Sunday. But I ran Saturday so figured I could run today, weds and then Friday to get back on track.
Secondly I had an important phone call to make so I didn't get time to do warm up stretches beforehand.
Thirdly I drank as usual when I got home and about ten mins before heading out but I felt very thirsty and my throat felt scratchy and dry! I wondered how I can run and take water with me? But then I shouldn't need to for a 40 mins session?
And fourth.. the sun was just annoying! The heat obviously but also makes it hard to look at the route ahead when it's in your face!
I still ran most of it but had to do some walking breaks. And it's still exercise be it run or walk so I'm not gonna be down about it!
However I am going to try my first before-work morning run on Wednesday!!! I think I just have to! esp as we get closer to summer! I will only get time for a quick wash after so I hope I don't smell of B.O at work!!!

I also found the sun a challenge today; I got my clothing wrong and ended up very warm. I managed to continue but stayed slow and was very thirsty by the end.
Well done for heading out and running!. Remember, there is not such thing as a failed run.
We have gone from, in old money, 32 degrees to, according to my car 70, in two weeks... I don’t think we are built to cope with that. According to the how to dress guide we dress for 20 degrees higher... so we were running in the 50s... nice... now it’s 90! I really struggled with my last run and it was all about that heat for sure. We will get used to it, but I think we are conditioned to much more gradual temperature changes.
I took water on my last run because of the heat... I didn’t drink any, my hydration was good, but it didn’t half cool me down when I needed it 😂. Don’t think I’ve ever poured water over myself outside in February before!
The run will have done you a lot of good... and you’ll be better set for the next time... celebrate how far you’ve come... one run doesn’t matter.
Cap for the sun... big brim... water... not for anything up to 10K.. Zikee belt, with two small water bottles, for anything longer, is brilliant ... you may be sickening for a cold or similar...warm up essential...and then ease off by taking it slowly... sun glasses, if you decide to...... but with light unbreakable lenses... in case you fall!
I'm happy to hear this - I thought I was just being a wimp as I know the weather is going to get much hotter in the peak of summer!
Not looking forward to getting up early tomorrow but I think if I am prepared -gear laid out ready etc - it will be fine and it's so beautiful and cool in the morning I am sure we will love it! Plus wow I get extra time after work instead of using it to run. I can go shopping lol
