Weight!

I've just completed week 6 run 1 and didn't find it too difficult. I thought I may have lost some weight by now but haven't dropped an ounce! Am I going too slow? Not sure I could go much faster anyway but just wondered if speed equals weight loss. Any thoughts?

From what I've read this challange isn't made for weight loss, I'm on the exact same run and aiming to lose 10kg and so far lost 1kg while on a calorie deficit.

From my previous experience weight lifting and HIIT training is more benificial for weight loss but everyone's body works differently.

Many people think that by taking up vigorous exercises or running will make them reduce their weight, not always the case as you have found out.

It's not anything to do with running quicker or slower that you have not lost a ounce although you have got to week 6.

I am not sure what your chances are of losing any weight by the time you graduate but you should eat healthy and nourishing food while you are on the C25K course.

Quite a lot of people who are doing C25K are also on weight watcher courses as well. Good luck, onwards and upwards to run 2 of week 6.

Sometimes when you start a new exercise regime you can start to develop muscle which is heavier then fat. So it may be a case of your body getting stronger now you’ve started C25K. Sometimes I

Find getting the measuring tape out instead of the scales can really help you to see progress! :)

This is not a weight loss programme so although you will feel fitter.. you may or not lose weight... A healthy eating regime and exercise will help, but it takes time... and patience.. Take a peek at our sister site...

I find whenever I take up exercise I feel like I deserve that extra pudding and that extra few chips and that extra ... when in fact all I've run off is the extra I was eating already. Difficult to find a balance if you're someone who enjoys your food. Most people still need to watch what they eat carefully, even when exercising. The good news is that if you diet and exercise you will use up stored fat. If you diet and don't exercise, your muscles will waste away before you burn any fat.

Good luck - I hope you start seeing some weight loss soon, but even if you don't, fit is better than unfit, any day.

I graduated over 20 months ago. I have been carrying extra weight for 20 years. I was over weight at one stage by 3 stone. When I started C25k I also started to eat healthy and was more conscious of what I was eating and as a result I lost 2 stone. Last year for a time I was not running for a few months due to a back injury. During that time I managed to gain just over 1 stone. So this January I decided that enough was enough. It was time to concentrate on shedding the weight and getting faster at the running. I have managed to lose 16 pounds in weight since the start of January and my running is getting better.

However the running is only helping. A fast paced 5K in 30 mins only burns off about 450 calories. 80-90% of weight lose is due to food choices. I joined Weight Watchers and have found it to be very good from an educational point of view in regards to food. I am determined to lose all of my extra weight and be in a healthy BMI range by the summer. Just 1 stone to go.
